Don't forget, the most important muscle being trained in the Body Improvement Club is the heart.
That's why everybody loves them :)

I think ONE summed up his story very well. “my idea is to create a big story about a little step”

Body Improvement Club was one of the best swerves I've seen in anime. Normally the big jocks in these stories are jerks so for them to be the second best boys (next to Mob) and my second favorite character (next to Reigan) but what an incredible addition to the story.

FIGHT ON!!!

Regarding the characters saying things that are cheesy and on the nose dialog, I would agree with you IF it wasn't MP100. With Mod psycho one of the main themes is learning to express your emotions instead of suppressing them, one of the biggest ways to do so is by saying things out loud even if it's chessy. Most people even in real life struggle to express themselves out of fear of being cheesy or cringy, having the emotional climax of the charecter arcs be them outright saying how they feel deep down even if it's super chessy and on the nose felt very cathartic to me, it shows how far the characters have come for them to be that open with there feelings

My two favourite moments in the show are both Reigen related.

One was in season 1 near the end, when Reigen was desperately trying to stop Mob from using his powers to kill. In the context of the story, it would have been completely justified (all his friends/family are in danger, he needs to save them). But all Reigen cared about was a child not getting blood on his hands, and having to live with the guilt.

The second is the confession in season 3 that he didn't have any powers. Which is hilarious because at this point, everyone watching the show and everyone in their world knows this already. But it was big that he actually said it out loud, and actually gave himself no room to wiggle out of it.

Oh and I guess third is that one guy's alien outer space adventure lol

I think it's important to note that as a coming of age story it puts out a ton of really positive figures for young men to look to in a way a lot of media today has been drifting from in our current social climate. Viewed through a lens of positive masculinity and negative masculinity, the finale and the things we should learn about ourselves and relationships makes it an even more powerful story especially for those who are also coming of age.

I think im speaking for everyone in this comment section when i say i'd happily watch a 1+ hour full spoiler video of Merphy talking about Mob Psycho, and it's not like there's not enough to talk about in the series :D

The body improvement club is no doubt very well loved. One of the most wholesome and supportive groups in all of anime history

Reigen Arataka must be the most honest scammer i've ever seen in my life.

Imo this is an modern amine classic, not just is the adaptation's execution essentially perfect, but the whole story got that treatment (which is very rare lol).

It's borderline nostalgia inducing given how long it actually took for all three seasons to be made (though 3/4 years between seasons is a pretty good case, all anime considered).

Edit: amine💀

The "All I ever wanted was a friend" line was a bit cliche and on the nose in hindsight, but it was almost immediately followed up by Dimple making a sacrifice play that really proves through action how much his priorities have changed

One of the best finales a series has ever received imho. It's so perfect.

There's this line I love during the teleport fight from teru. "There are people in this world with powers you can't even fathom, you're just an ordinary man, even I could beat you" and i love it. Teru got humbled early on and never let it drops from his mind that the world is full of people doing incredible things he could never do himself. Clearly one of the most versatile quick on the draw espers in the series and he doesn't even consider it all that important anymore

One thing I like is that it's nit "Subversive" for the sake of it. Mob joining the Body Improvement Club has real meaning in the story for example. And the S1 Climax addressed the big YA Elephant, these characters are children. For us reading/watching it's a work of fiction that's cool and badass, but Reigen sees it for the tragedy it is.

If you like Mob Psycho 100, I HIGHLY recommend Ranking of Kings. It’s one of my favorite anime ever. It’s a beautifully drawn anime with surprisingly deep themes. A lot more tragic stuff happens there compared to Mob Psycho. That anime made me feel the most emotion in the shortest timeframe. It’s almost unfair how good it is. And it makes you fall in love with so many of the characters. Even random side characters that barely show up for an episode or two.

I will say as well: it does “show, don’t tell” INCREDIBLY well. Which makes sense, because the main character is deaf and can’t speak. So you feel all the emotions mostly through action rather then conversation. Though you do see a few really hard-hitting conversations as well.

Mob Psycho 100 is probably my favorite show of all time. I relate to Mob a lot. Like, a lot a lot. I was a shy, nerdy boy when I was younger, and I didn't have a lot of friends. I'm trans now, and the whole final arc with self-acceptance being the main theme hit so hard for me. I had also depersonalized and dissociated from my emotions while I was running from myself, just like Mob. Like Mob, I was terrified of letting go, of losing that sort of hypervigilance to keep everything in check at all times, even when I was alone. So learning how to get in touch with myself has been a long and ongoing journey, and this show reflected so much of myself back to me that I fell in love with it right away. Then there's all the things that everyone else loves about it too, the weird, quirky sense of humor, the animation, the off-beat music, all of it. 10/10 show for me.
