Light gets shot: Original vs. Relight

I made this video to showcase the differences between Light getting shot in Episode 37 of the anime and Death Note Relight 2: L's Successors. If you don't know what Death Note: Relight is, it's basically a condensed and abridged version of the whole anime into a few hours. Besides some extra scenes, it isn't really worth watching if you've seen the anime already. (And considering how second arc was rushed to begin with, I wouldn't really recommend it for first time watchers, unless you're too busy to watch a whole anime.)

That said, this is an exception. I found it extremely interesting how—besides the obvious missing scenes that Relight is known for—different this scene sounds. All the sound effects have been changed; Matsuda's gun sounds more realistic (it actually freaked me out the first time I heard it, ngl. I wasn't expecting this version when I was watching a video that had this in it as a meme, so I was like "whoa, what is this!?"). Plus, most notably, Light's VA re-recorded the MAD-famous "Bakayaro, Matsuda!" line. Probably so it flows better into his speech that follows after Matsuda asks about Soichiro's death, which the Relight excluded. Either way, a really interesting addition. I prefer the original take, though. It's what I'm used to...

Also, if you're wondering, I haven't watched the whole Relight (like I said: pretty pointless if you've actually seen the anime) but Kira's laugh doesn't change. inb4 somebody asks, lol. As far as I know this is the only re-recording. Wonder why they didn't just edit the scenes together and made him record a whole new take?

I'll upload an actual video sometime here soon. Life has been hectic as of late, and I need some time before I can put together a good vid. Thank you for understanding.

We all weren’t expecting Matsuda to be the one to kill Light.

Matsuda after shooting Light: What in the world did your dad die for
L's Soul: Bro bro I literally did 90% of the work

Don’t forget, all this happened cause Ryuk was bored

I love how Light has to think who his dad was, because he just forgot about him

The final episode really made me appreciate Matsuda as a character. Once he found out Light was Kira, he had hit his breaking point and took matters into his own hands by shooting him. In my opinion, he’s a very underrated character because throughout most of the series he is more of the comedic relief and isn’t taken seriously by any of the members of the Task Force until this last moment. Now in terms of which version of this scene I prefer, I obviously prefer the original scene because it shows more character development instead of just skipping all that and going straight to the action like the Relight version does.

He could write their names if he didn't show off his pen like that, he could've silently written the names

“Watch out he had a paper” turns out it was his shopping list and Kira was behind them.

It always kills me to remember Matsuda of all people killed Light. _Matsuda._ Floppy-haired, doe-eyed, bumbling, coffee boy Matsuda. The embodiment of the innocent people Light wanted to protect, only wanting to help others, be useful, and make the world a better place. He basically agreed with Kira’s ideals, if not his methods, and always vehemently believed in Light’s innocence, all the way to the finale. It’s almost as if Light’s perfect world rejected him at the end, with five bullets and a heart attack.

Now i finally know why Ryuk killed Light. Because Ryuk wanted to see him die and no one knows if he would die by the gun shots or in jail. And my boy Ryuk dont like waiting...just like me.

Man I felt so bad for Matsuda and the other guys who believed in light for so long, they must’ve had the longest internal conflict.

Man the amount of pain in matsuda's voice after such a sour betrayal, i can tell that his heart has been shattered into pieces :(

Yeah original take is better. It made it seem more impactful for Matsuda and his anger against Light. Plus the redubbing for an already iconic scene seems more...lifeless? IDK how to describe it. I guess if you're a hardcore fan it might seem interesting to have the abridged videos but it just takes out so much of the important bits (Like Death and Rebirth movie for Neon Genesis Ebangelion, )

Also it's not as meme-able as the original so lmao

Matsuda may not have had the analytical mind of L and Light, or the cool head and leadership skills of Chief Yagami, but when the time came, when it really counted, he’s the one who could see things clearly and had the spine to strike down the “God of the new world” without hesitation. Even in one of his apparent dumb moments, dealing with the consequences of his failed espionage, he handled his incredibly risky fake death like a champ. In a show about chess players outthinking each other, Matsuda’s the underrated man of action who can push the button without hesitation while everyone else is stuck in their own heads.

As the wisest rapper of our era Kayne West-sama said: "No one man should have all that power" which is why Light had to die.

People are suspecting that the unknown shinigami in the specials is Light as a reincarnation. Im still sad that Light died. I have my reasons.

I've never watched this in Japanese and I'm ASTOUNDED at how much the English voice actor for Light PERFECTLY captured the exact pitch of the breaks of the Japanese actor's voice during that iconic final breakdown
