Forty-one years later, the recruits are still marching to "Mama Mama." Nice!!! It was also nice to see them learning DC we didn't learn until we got out in the fleet.

Wow, so much different than when I graduated in March of 1990. Glad they get more DC training. Glad to see the rumors of less physical training was just a rumor. They mess up, they still get beat pretty hard.

The chief was one of the blue ropes training with our division. It’s cool to see him with his own division

This brings back so many memories of When I went through RTC at San Diego California in 1983, Firefighting Training, and Firearms Training were the most fun Days for me and Tear gas the worst.
And back then the “intensive training” was called “Marching Parties” every night on the grinder all those who really screwed up from every Company got together to be PT’d until they collapsed from exhaustion.
But it is amazing the transformation that occurs in just a few weeks as you start to make accomplishments, even now 35 years later I can remember the pride we all felt when our Company Commanders let us go to Chow on our own without them accompanying us, we felt ten feet tall as we marched on our own past new companies of recruits.

I've been in the Navy 7 years and when I'm on the job feeling like I could fall asleep at any minute I hear that cadence.

I could listen to cadence all day long with that APOC and, I'm glad they get to shoot with real M-9's now instead of the lazer guns like I did.
Most importantly though, they are really starting to shape up!

They may learn some basic marlinspike, but a month in Deck Division, or an entire cruise, will teach them a lot more. How the heck do go down through a scuttle wearing that air bottle? We used OBAs. But, glad to see them learning this. One day of fire fighting and one day on the rifle range was no where near enough for what I needed. On a DC team at GQ I was the #1 nozzleman. I had a heck of a lot to learn and then I got to go to Buttercup. What a blast that was. You want to see what it can really be like? Watch the video on the Forrestal's fire in 1967. I fought 2 actual fires on the Ranger and they didn't begin to compare to the horror on the Forrestal. Oriskany and Enterprise also had really bad ones. Enterprise was in January, 1969 during ORI. Oh, in 1968, we had Company Commander's (CCs), not RDCs. We also did not do cadence. That was for those who needed help keeping in step. Hippity Hop, Stop.
