Man, I loved both versions of this show. They had such distinct writing styles that you could feel the cultural outlooks of the time. Snark vs Sardonics, Pretty vs Practical. Even when the humor overlapped it was played uniquely. It really emphasised the differences between UK and US, which I found really cool and insightful.

Georges screams during transformation are the absolute most chilling sounds I've ever heard. I absolutely love this show!!

One of my favourite things about being human (I haven't seen the US version) is that most vampires looked like completely ordinary people, as opposed to the seductive or intimidating monsters

The vampires depicted in this show are my favourite of all time, I love how they are almost like addicts. So human yet so animalistic given the circumstances. It really shows the sadness and depression of actually being a vampire.

I love both versions of the show. I will say the UK version lost me towards the end when it was clearly falling apart and they were trying desperately to hold on. As a result the USA version feels like a more focused and complete story.

Loved this show when it first came out. Did get little bit crazy by the end. But was a great dynamic between the three characters.

Ultra violet is another British vampire TV show, didn't run for very long but has idnris Elba in it really good and different take on vampire.

YES, I've been waiting so long for this. I prefer the UK version but the US version has it's appeal. To me, these are the most realistic and scary portrayal of these monsters, not in that they seem plausible in our world but more so that if classic monsters like these existed in our world they'd be as portrayed on the show.

The writing and practical effects on this show are so impressive, especially for a TV series. Also the chemistry between the main cast was chefs kiss

The werewolf transformation s for George are on par with an American werewolf in London..( 1981)...Rick Baker would be proud of the practical effects on this show.

You should look at the Vampires from Young Dracula, it's a kids show but the vampires and the lore around them in that show is really interesting. I loved it show as a kid!
This video was great and Being Human was awesome!

Honestly I loved both UK and US version, the US one does divert from the original and the lore is slightly different but I still really enjoyed it.

Something you missed (and I don't blame you, cause it seems most people did) is that before George the werewolf died, he was beginning to grow stronger and stronger, even in his human form.

Usually Mitchell is far stronger than George, but there was a scene where George and Mitchell argued, and George gripped Mitchell's arm. Mitchell tried to casually pull away, but found himself unable to, and even complained that he was hurting him, visibly confused as to how that was even possible.

Sadly, since the main cast were all replaced and the plot got what basically amounts to a reboot, we never got to find out what that meant, and why George was slowly growing stronger even in his human form, to the point of being stronger than a vegan vampire.
The werewolves introduced later had some animal traits while in human form, but they were also clearly strong cafe fighters, so it's a lot harder to tell if their strength was just the strength of a naturally strong human fighter, or enhanced by being a werewolf (especially since they weren't normal people even without the werewolf blood, living more like wolves pretending to be human, than humans with a curse)

But I will never not be annoyed that such a great show got the Sugababes treatment, and had the entire cast replaced, as if anyone was gonna watch what amounted to a completely different show, wearing the skin of a dead show we used to love.

American version was the first one I saw and I love it but the British one is a lot better. Been waiting for this one!

Great series, great essay, fab! I prefer the UK version, probably for seeing it first but was glad for it getting a broader recognition. And I think (western) Vampires are depicted more feudal and Werewolves more rural, which makes for nice social commentary;o)

Now a couple for your consideration:

- The Gates (vampires, werewolves, succubus in suburbia, hidden gem imo)
- Dreden Files (decent adaptation, werewolves, lycanthropes, hexenwolves and loup garou)
- Jekyll (UK), Jekyll & Hyde (transmogrification, both great in their own regards)
- Lost Girl, Trese (Aswang, Shifter)
- Wellington Paranormal (What we do in the Shadows (movie) spin-off)
- Death Valley (werewolves, vampires, zombies mockumentary)
- Hex, Discovery of Witches (Nephalim)
- Sanctuary (N. Tesla as a vampire)
- The Fades (spirits, gory)
- Point Pleasant (Satan's offspring)
- The Imperfects (Chupacabra, Banshee, Succubus, not a joke;o) )
- Black Blood Brothers, Wolf's Rain (anime)
- 30 monedas and anything by Alex de la Iglesias
- Bastard Son & Devil himself, Motherland Fort Salem (witches)
- Diablero, Los Espookies, Constantine, South of Hell (exorcism)
- Fresh Meat, Dead Set (zombies)

Games: Bloodborne lore and Blackbook, Thea the Awakening/Shattering if you ike slavic folklore like in the Witcher
Movies: Night-/Day-(/Twilight-) Watch, last Vampire Princess (russian), Bloody Mallory (whacky) and last years Renfield had two great Nicholas'^^

Lastly if I may, Kohlrabenschwarz (pitch black ?!) is a short new german series, sort of a bavarian Grimm, great myth and fun! And explains why so many fairy tales have a Hans/Jack^^ Cheers!

Oh, Cogan, since you're reading vampire books I suggest reading: The Pureblood Society. It's a book that's come out in the past few years (it was also written by a friend). It has some shocking scenes and a curious perspective on the supernatural world (as I think it's just the first book in her series).

Absolutely love this show, especially Aidan Turner and Stephen Moffat. Also the actor who played the devil. And his TV speech about humanity was scarily spot on. Just *chef's kiss*

It did get a little weird after season 3, like you said, but I was able to get back into it fairly well, and it ended strong! I also appreciate that it didn't get dragged out forever and ever. (Supernatural is prolly my fav TV show ever, but not so much Seasons 12-15)
