Their coffees were only around $10, but the gratuity charge was well over $4k.

Why is Starbucks cutting hot checks instead of refunding the amount back to the customer's credit card?

Wow!! It's not my money and it angers me so I know how the couple feels. He sign no tips. Did Starbuck think the couple were stupid. Both checks bounced from Starbuck. Go to the headquarter and get your money. A big chain company cannot not at their debt. SMH

I'm not buying this story. The bank of the credit/debit card would handle the reversal of funds.

Moral of the Story: Don't go to Starbucks.

Why didn't they do the "human error" in benefit of the customer? They always do human errors against the customers.

Also. While I see "human error" as making sense in this situation there is still no reason for it to become this mess.
As mentioned rhe store would have known THAT evening when closing store that a $4400 tip was charged.

The only thing I can even remotely think is that tip had already been "paid out" to the staff and the local store attempted to rectify the situation themselves causing a mess before corporate had to step in.

Is this fake news against starbucks? Can’t the credit card dispute charges?

People wake up! Stop pushing for a cashless society! Avoid all these problems at all costs.

Okay... I've posted this same comment on a couple videos of the story looking for any answers but can't seem ro find anything online
Anyone else??

Yea.... I feel like there is a LOT more to this story. Like.... ALOT.
• Call your bank. There is no doubt the bank would halt that payment.
• Starbucks sent them checks? That bounced (or were canceled?)? That's weird. LoL
• Starbucks has ZERO reason to try and keep this couples $4400 by saying they put it as a TIP. As a tip this would get passed onto the employees. (It's been several years since I managed at sbux but I assume it's the same tip policy). So as a company that money doesn't even go to the bottom line.
I assume something has happened with the LOCAL store that has caused this big thing. I don't know how long it was before the couple realized an extra $4400 was charged to the card but maybe they are lucky enough to not have noticed this right away, and it took some time. Which would make the process of refund or fraudulent charges a lengthier process. Even still. I cannot see why Starbucks as a company would even bother with the case. Refunding a $4400 TIP even with only the claim being of a random customer saying they did not do it is just not smart business.

ANOTHER MASSIVE point is that whomever closed the store THAT EVENING would have known a $4400 TIP was charged to a card. Regardless of it being real, fake, true, a lie, it would have been noticed, flagged, asked about, etc etc etc.
Context matters

You can clearly see that the system messed up. Unless they meant to put $4.44 it’s a huge mistake

This happens when a person is using a tap to pay system. Sometimes you think your tapping to pay but what ur actually doing is tapping the numbers displayed for tips ... Then the tap goes thru .. iono weird

Not buying thus story as stated. There's an untold version. This is absurd just in the fact they have a receipt showing the issue and the situation took as long as it did to rectify. Then the couple goes on to mention their now canceled trip, blaming that, also, on the Starbucks error. Sorry kids, but anything else financially could have gone wrong as well, so if that 4k error meant you had no backup money, then you couldn't afford your trip afterall and never should have created it. I bank with USAA. One quick call would have have stopped that "sticky button overcharge". Can you please enlighten us as to the name of your banking establishment? A 4k tip... very laughable. Pure stupidity.

I hope these people got their money. Why I starbucks passing rubber checks anyway? This whole thing is shady. In never going to a sb again.

And the couple lost their tickets over seas because of this. Starbucks should make good and reimburse them for the lost tickets.
