Trump Backs Hegseth for Defense Secretary Amid Senate Republican Concerns | EWTN News Nightly

The fate of President Trump's nominee Pete Hegseth to be Defense Secretary remains uncertain, following meetings this week with Republican senators. That's even after President-elect Donald Trump says he still stands behind him. A number of them indicate they'll back him, while Democrats say he's a compromised candidate. There are pretty stark differences in the way senators feel about Hegseth's nomination to oversee the Pentagon, with over 2 million troops and civilian workers, and a $900 billion annual budget. The former Iraq war veteran and Fox TV host says Trump is demanding change. He spent the week trying to reassure Republican Senators that he is fit to serve, despite allegations of excessive drinking and sexual assault. Hegseth said, "We're putting the war fighters first. That's what Donald Trump asked me to do. Your job is to bring a war-fighting ethos back to the Pentagon. Your job is to make sure that it's lethality, lethality, lethality. Everything else is gone. Everything else that distracts from that shouldn't be happening." However, there are reports that his nomination is in trouble and won't survive much longer. But President-elect Trump says Hegseth has his full support. Capitol Hill Correspondent Erik Rosales reports.
