Fanned out across the width of a main road, the landmines are small but, when viewed up close, unmistakable. They have been planted by Russian troops on a route used by Ukrainian civilians – and the slightest mistake will set them off.
Nerve-wracking footage shows three drivers carefully navigating this literal minefield. In the video from Borodyanka, a town in Kyiv Oblast, vehicles make their approach one-by-one.
The mines are laid in curved rows – all the better to catch the tyres of vehicles. They are four deep and perhaps six across.
