Oh no, I broke my Windows 8.1 virtual machine just by installing this transformation pack!
Is it because of the exploits it used to change the boot screen logo, LogonUI.exe and Explorer.exe and add other Windows 7 programs

It is still a great OS for weak notebooks. I have a Compaq Notebook with 2 x 1 GHz CPU. You can sit there for hours if you try Windows 10, and it's doing almost nothing.
But it's good useable with this Windows 8.1 Professional Build 9600.
You should disable updates, because it slows down the machine without finding any.
It doesn't need any updates. It's good exactly in this state.
I use Pandadome Antivirus, to stay up to date in this category.
