The 2023 UCI Gravel World Championships saw road riders mixing with gravel professionals and even a few influencers.

It was also a hotbed of new bikes and hacks that would be more at home on the Sunday club ride than chasing a rainbow jersey.

In this video we run you through all the key tech trends that we saw from the men’s and women’s races in Veneto, Italy.

This is far more interesting than looking at tech at the Tour de France with all the vastly different set ups and the whole jerry riggedness of it.

Would have liked the video better if Rane Roatta was left out of it. Someone who rides in a car for part of a race (Unbound) and then later rides across the finish line doesn't sit well with me.
No problem with the riding in the car to get your bike fixed at a checkpoint but crossing the finish line (acting like you completed the whole race) turns you into a cheater no matter how much you say it turned into a training ride after the mechanical.

Great video. Delving into tech for any race is great, I hope you could do something similar for XCO MTB as well. This gravel track was better imo.

I use nearly all, what pros use on a gravel bike: road groupset and pedals, Schwalbe Overland tires, but I prefer an aero belly over pro 🪒 legs.

I use the Schwalbe Ones, even at 700x35 they take an amazing amount of abuse and seem pretty fast. I've had no punctures since switching to them a year ago.

Great vid; I'm actually contemplating now switching pedals on my gravel bike from mtb to road, so this is helpful!

I love the pathfinders, but they weren't in stock at the local shop last month and I tried some of the Sawtooths in 700x 42 's and they are great too, super fast and grippy

I use a compact groupset and a cassette withe the lowest gear on my gravel bike. I don't race, but it gives me all the gears needed for all roads and terrain

3:15 what are those bolt holes for? Can't think of anything that'd mount there other than a cafe lock lol

Worth noting that when sated 1X groupset at 6:33 that this 11s GRX has been swapped with a Garbaruk cassette & derailleur cage/jockey wheels to get better gear range

I’ve been very happy with my Tufo Thundero tyres they seem as tuff as my old Pathfinders but faster and cheaper

I ride an ultegra 11 speed with 50-34 front and 11-40 (forty) in the back. 33 mm schwalbe x-one speed tires and deore xt xc pedals. Smooth and easy.
