When that guy at the party says he just likes to sit around and talk physics and Carl Jung, while saying, "like" every 2 sentences. I also usually like to follow up comments like those by one-upping them in a joking manner. Something like, "No way!" "When Justin Timberlake and I are hanging in our spare time we like to try to improve Nuclear Fusion Reactor models, that's so funny." It kinda breaks the awkwardness with a joke and lets them subconsciously know you're not buying it.
