So far, I've read 10 classic books in 2023! Let's rank them from favorite to least favorite!

Hi friends!

I can't believe we are almost half way through the year already! I thought this would be a great time to reflect on the books I've read so far, and rank them (for fun)!

I'd love to know how you would rank the (classic) books you've read so far this year, or how you would rank the books I've mentioned in this video!

Sending you my best wishes,
Carolyn Marie :)

Enemies to lovers - Carolyn living out a trope through her relationship with The Catcher in the Rye 🙂

You are totally allowed to dislike a book, even if it's a classic 😊 There's no need to excuse yourself ❤

I've read seven classics out of my 33 read so far this year! This year I'm really picking up a lot of the classics books, like Crime and punishment, The Bunch back of Notre Dame, and Little Women. You've really encouraged me to read more classics! Thank you!

1:56 Animal Farm
2:33 Metamorphosis
2:58 Prince Caspian
3:12 David Copperfield
3:47 I know why the caged bird sings
4:07 Once there was a war
4:36 Catcher in the Rye
5:20 I have more souls than one
6:08 Farewell to arms
6:45 Catcher in the Rye again
8:00 Peter Pan

Changes were made after the initial ranking

Note: I was surprised at how you despised Catcher in the Rye especially in HIGHSCHOOL, the best time to express teenage angst. Glad you gave it a chance. It's my favorite book and I don't think I'd love reading as much as I do now if I never read it in my teens.

I would switch 1 and 10.😁 You are truly my favorite booktuber even though you hated one of my favorite classics of all time (DC). ❤️

Love this video idea. Could be a lot of fun for future videos as well. And I'm really excited for you to read more Kafka 💜

You have encouraged me to include the catcher in the eye in my future reads. Maybe Fernando Pessoa or Maya Angelou in the future. Nice reads!

I read 17 classics so far this year and without a doubt Jane Eyre is my favourite with Anne of Green Gables at second spot❤
The catcher in the rye and Metamorphosis are my picks for next month

I should do more rereads again...so many classics have been 'spoiled' in a way by school really. It wasn't until I did my thesis on literature education for children, I realized what devastating effects the ways our schools are treating literature has. I remember I sort of liked Animal Farm when I was sixteen, so that's certainly up for a reread. Absolutely love A Farewell to Arms as well, as do I love Maya Angelou. Some great books there!

If you read Great Expectations, I would love your take on this classic.

Thanks for your wonderfully informative videos! I’ve learned a great deal from them and introduced me to new authors.

I really enjoyed your ranking here, thanks! The top two books of your list would be the ones I would have chosen as well. I had a very similar experience with Catcher in the Rye in that I didn’t like it at all in high school but we just reread it in our book club a few months ago and I thought it was great! Strange how a few decades of life & experience can change your perspective. Also, I love Brothers K and am excited to hear your take on it. We’re currently reading through Crime and Punishment which I hope is just as good 😅

Hello, I'm taking advantage of the fact that I'm in the first ones to tell you that you're my favorite youtuber, I love you 🥰🥰🥰
You talk about things so well you are sweet, funny, and super interesting
Another thing: I saw that you often talk about Steinbeck in your videos, especially The Grapes of Wrath and East of Eden. They are among my favourite books of all time, you must read them! Don't be afraid of their size, they are definitely worth it. I can't wait for you to read them and see what you think 😊

Lots of hearts on you ❤️❤️❤️

PS: sorry if there are mistakes I am French

PPS: as a French person I am in love with your accent (which is...?l). You speak very clearly and it's super easy to understand you, and on top of that you speak in a very soft and singing way, it's very pleasant.

The Game of Tomes is my classics reading goal for the year and it’s been very helpful so far. I also was blown away by A Farewell to Arms and could barely get through David Copperfield. I loved a Christmas Carol and Great Expectations, so it’s not just disliking Dickens. Hemingway packs a punch though that is very impactful for me. It seems many people have a strong preference for one or the other of those writing styles (Hemingway vs Dickens or Steinbeck). I’m in the Hemingway camp.
