something a bit interesting is that you can only get this weapon after killing morgott, meaning melina probably cast it away after helping you kill morgott

That door not being a “does not open from this side” door was the biggest surprise of elden ring

210 hours on the game and there’s still items I’m missing. Unbelievable game man.

I remember finding this on my very first playthrough, the only weapon however that I never knew existed, was the shamshir. Found in a cave north of limgrave, guarded by a bunch of land squids. Another item is the land squint head piece and the serpent rulers greatsword

Not only is this the weapon wielded by Melina, you can see in the boss fight against Morgott that Melina had the exact same move set as a Black Knife Assassin.

I swear someone is gonna find an area in Elden Ring bigger than the game itself in 20yrs

Melina has the same move patterns as the Black Knives, and her dagger even appears to be an unaltered black knife, their skills being near identical. The Black Knives are Numen, and come from the Eternal Cities. The Eternal Cities are known for creating silver artificial life forms, most notably silver tears, but its also heavily implied they made the albinaurics as well. There is however another group of silver life forms that can morph their shape to some extent and seem to appear from thin air: the godskins, wielders of the black flame once powered by the Rune of Death. Their leader, the Gloam-Eyed Queen, an Empyrean, can thus be assumed to have been a Numen and leader of the Eternal Cities. She was however defeated by Maliketh, now called Gurranq as a disguise to hide the rune, but issues with the death of Godwyn, caused by the Black Knives, has deathroot sprouting all over the Lands Between, bringing the dead up with it. Gurranq gives us the Beast Eye, a cloudy violet eye of stone, partly crumbling with carvings on it, and it calls out to the guardians of deathroot, seeking to bring the deathroots back together to confine death once more. We see Marika and Radagon are stoney and cracked, crumbling after being blasted in the explosion caused by the shattering of the Elden Ring, and the corpse of Ranni, her original Empyrean body, is charred and stony, also crumbling. Ranni used the Rune of Death to slay her body, so her spirit would be free of the Two Fingers, not wishing to be a puppet of them. She gives you the spirit calling bell on the order of “Torrent’s former master”, and is aware of you having him even if you dont use him before meeting her. Torrent’s only other master we know of is Melina, so it seems she collaborated with Ranni. Melina and Ranni share an interesting detail or two, for one, both can appear and disappear in a cloud of blue smoke and sparks, and for another, both have one eye sealed shut, but on opposing sides. Melina has her left eye sealed shut, with a strange claw-like marking over it, while Ranni’s is her right, with a weird grid of symbols glowing blue, but the observant note a second spectral face of Ranni’s, whose left eye is sealed. It can be argued this spectral face is her true face, as she inhabits a puppet body based on her former teacher. In the Lord of Frenzied Flame ending, if Melina survives you get an extra scene. Maliketh is dead, as is required to get the Rune of Death, and she finds Torrent’s whistle on the ground where you once were, burning away. She opens her once sealed left eye revealing a cloudy, violet eye before threatening to kill you with the Rune of Death. She also implies throughout the game that Marika is her mother, who once gave her her purpose, but she now chooses her own fate.

So, what does any of that mean? Well, Melina is obsessed with Death, has an eye eerily similar to the one Gurranq gives you, Gurranq is Maliketh, who defeated an Empyrean and took the Rune of Death from her, and Melina is “burnt and bodiless.” Melina is the Gloam-Eyed Queen.
Melina also shares some weird traits with Ranni, who burnt her body and now inhabits a puppet, and has a sealed shut eye, knows of Torrent, and used the Rune of Death and has ties to the Eternal Cities. They also seemed to have collaborated on meeting with you.

Radagon and Marika are two minds in one body. Two distinct individuals of one body that changes to match whoever is currently in charge of it. This was entirely unknown for MILLENNIA, and ONE guy found out, then we learn this and tell Goldmask and Corhyn.
NOBODY knew this. We know for certain that THREE people besides ourselves find out. Only one truly discovered that secret.

Also, *R*adagon and *M*arika, *R*anni and *M*elina. You know where this is going.

I propose to you this: One of the demigod children was born like Radagon and Marika, two souls within one body. This was kept totally hidden from all. Melina went on to be the leader of the exiled Nox people, and she wielded Destined Death at the command of Marika, and she dealt out death to gods as needed, as well as acting as the warden to keep the exiled Nox in check. Marika however is known for being rather controlling and paranoid, so she didnt want the Rune of Death being wielded by someone capable of rebelling against her, so she had her shadowbound beast Maliketh take it, and confine its power so that she had direct control of it rather than indirect through Melina.
Ranni we know was taught by the snowy crone, discovered her own Dark Moon, and wished to discard her flesh to free herself of the Two Fingers.
So, when Maliketh defeated the Gloam-Eyed Queen, he took her eye and marked it with the beast claw, as a safeguard to track the Rune of Death, and Melina, beaten and betrayed, found a new purpose. Ranni and Melina had their own plans and goals, both of which involved the removal of Marika from power. Driven by revenge, Ranni’s of Radagon breaking her mother’s heart, and Melina’s of Marika betraying her, becoming a paranoid control freak, both sought the end of the current order. So, Melina and Ranni worked together to steal a shard of the Rune of Death, kill their body to separate their souls, and go about their plans, to find a Tarnished who would be Lord, and end the reign of the Golden Order. Ranni had Iji forge the Black Knives and she imbued it with the Rune of Death, and Melina trained the Black Knife assassins on how to use them from her own training with her Blade of Calling. But the Nox were only given half the plan. They were taught to fight, what to do, but only taught half of the cursemark that could kill a Demigod. And, on that fateful night, they struck. The Night of Black Knives ended with the death of the soul of Godwyn, and the body of Ranni and Melina, for they used the other half on themselves. The Black Knives were left to fend for themselves, with no back up from their leaders. So, they were killed, scattered, and wounded, and the Nox never forgave this action. They planted the seeds for revenge. Their brother, Radahn, learned gravity magic in Sellia, town of sorcery, which hides a secret: the secret plans of the Nox. At this point Radahn was gaining power, he was taught gravity magic and encouraged to halt the very stars, and as he sought glory and might, he did, earning him immense respect and showcasing himself as the mightiest of sorcerers. But the halting of the stars removed Ranni’s fate, for the astrologers would read fate in the movement of stars, but now they moved no longer. Her fate prevented her from wielding the fingerslayer blade, which was then hidden from her in Eternal City of Nokron. Her plans were ended, while Melina was now without a body at all. She lost most of her memory, and remembered only her sister, mother, and her search for a Tarnished who would be Elden Lord.

Thus was the tale of the Witch of the Cold Night and the Kindling Maiden who walks Alongside Flame.

Isn't this dagger also what the black knife assassin daggers were before they were imbued with the rune of death?

Honestly the Blade of Calling is an amazing weapon, not because its a good weapon but because its existence brings about more questions than answers unlike most other weapons. Who is Melina? why does she fight like a Black knife assassin? Who are the BKA's? Why do they both work for and against the golden order? So much mystery around a simple dagger.

Plot Twist: If you take the dagger and save Melina; The reason she doesn’t come back to introduce you to Destined Death is because she’s too busy trying to find where she put her dagger to kill you with 😂

What's also cool is that it's ash of war uses a similar animation to Maliketh's second phase attack when he jumps around and swings it just like that

Thank you for showing the weapon and its name in the thumbnail and title, instead of waiting halfway through the video to explain where and what it is

For those having trouble seeing it; it's pretty much at the bottom of the elevator shaft. You can see the entrance from the ground.

Weird how it functions like the Black Knife. I wonder if there’s a connection there or if they just thought no one would notice a reused animation?

I powerstanced this dagger along with the Black Knife on one of my builds. They both have the same sword art but do different damage types, but both scale with faith. The pair was absolutely nasty at shredding bosses healthbars. Punishing invaders was hilarious with that pair too.
