"Event Horizon" was even gorier and had more grotesque violence than the released version? Wow. That really surprises me, because that is a heavy duty mean SOB of a movie.

All except Abyss and John Carter are in my top 10 favourite films. Add Upgrade, Interstellar, Bladerunner, Outland and the first two Alien films and that's the creme-de-la-creme for me.

You completely mistake the term „underrated“. It has nothing to do with box-office. Boy, the new Bladerunner - just as one example - is being hailed for exactly the reasons you‘re mentioning.

dark city is one of my favourite sci fi. still surprises me when people say they've never seen it. matrix was great but dark city stands the test of time much better in my opinion and the matrix was ruined by the sequels.. neo should not have been able to use his powers outside the matrix, up until that point it could have been a true story if you accept simulation theory is a possibility, , , the moment he used his powers outside the matrix it ruined the whole concept for me, , and as for millenial matrix lol
