I will always pick up a similar machine as cheaply as I can for exactly the same reasons. It certainly saves on the needles.

Yes, it can leave faint grooves because The diamond tip is etching into the record. Have you done a blow test on your reproducer? I have videos on how to check for patency on your reproducer. It sounds like it may need to be rebuilt. If you have no air leaks then leave it for now.

Play them wet. Cleans the grooves and cuts out a lot of the surface noise. If you have the correct stylus and a mono switch then all problems sorted.

Hey, I have 2 quick questions about My Edison Diamond disc Player. Is it Normal for my reproducer to make small, barely noticeable grooves on the unrecorded spots of the records?
My second question has to do with the reproducers diaphragm portion. The diaphragm portion of the reproducer is kind of crooked and leaning to the left. Is this something I should fix, or leave be?

I've heard many times that it's not safe to play 78s from the 1930s, 40s, and 50s on older Victrolas. I own a VV 8-7 and was wondering if there's a safe way to play 78s made past the 1930s.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Seems odd to me that you fix up early acoustic players and are sorting through much later WWII era records which were not intended to be played on the earlier machines?

Just to let newbies know, this record player he is using has no association with the victor talking machine co. that coined the word "VICTROLA". this company simply took the word and uses it to sell their modern toy record players. Not worth the money to buy. A lot of people think they are the same company from 100 years ago.
