What is Groundwater?

The Earth is 70 % water. However, only 3% of this water is freshwater. Much of this freshwater is frozen in glaciers, you will find some of the water in rivers and streams, and almost 30% of this freshwater is groundwater.
But What is groundwater? Groundwater is water that finds it way between the gaps of rocks and sediments underground.
As the water seeps into the ground it may find it’s way into an aquifer. Aquifers are underground rock layers saturated with groundwater. An aquifer is not an underground river but large porous layers of rock.

I cried when I heard you saying, when it rains some of the water moves down into the ground and it can move up and how we use it to water the crops. Allah described it in Qura'an

In Qura'n
(21) Do you not see that Allāh sends down rain from the sky and makes it flow as springs [and rivers] in the earth; then He produces thereby crops of varying colors; then they dry and you see them turned yellow; then He makes them [scattered] debris. Indeed in that is a reminder for those of understanding.( surah Zumar:21)

Then your hearts became hardened after that, being like stones or even harder. For indeed, there are stones from which rivers burst forth, and there are some of them that split open and water comes out, and there are some of them that fall down for fear of Allah . And Allah is not unaware of what you do ( surah Baqarah: 74)

They have also found a subterranean ocean of fresh groundwater beneath the Australian Great Artesian Basin, created over the millenium from rainwater slowly seeping down through the top soil, permeating down to the harder, non-permeable layers beneath and accumulating over time.
Several dangers in the overuse of this resource involves the inadvertent creating of too much salinity (as more and more of the freshwater is removed, more and more salts are left behind, turning the water brackish unsuitable for use) as well as dropping the ground level and causing the formation of sinkholes.
The water cannot be replenished underground faster than the volume taken out by humans for industrial and farming use as it has taken eons to collect and one has to be very careful over this fact. The stored water should only be used in emergencies and not for normal every day applications as there is no constant running water from rivers to replenish the supply underground.

what>3 is ground water, its the water we push onto city asphalt into drains, out to creeks? or rivers? one of the saddest things I have had to look at, so many chose to discharge water instead of holding it back on their lawns or back yards and when it starts to move after saturatuation and gravity can not take it, the rain water starts to move, that is why peoples grades are so important to cycle the water so we can help the recharge of ground water, to environment?, oh sorry I was talking about rain, wrong topic, excuse me,

Thank you, I think ground water health is very important because it reflects water system and overall health of all persons on the planet..we can or shall try to protect it and warn against public pandemics
