In this video, I break down what I think are the 3 best exchange traded funds (ETFs) in Canada, especially when combined in a portfolio.

The 3 fund portfolio is one of the simplest, most well-diversified ways to invest. I plan on dollar cost averaging into these three ETFs over time and hopefully it will help me retire early. I'll also be comparing the ROI of this investing strategy to other asset classes including individual stocks, penny stocks, and crypto.

It is always good to see new (to me at least) people in the Canadian Financial YouTube Niche :-)

Since you're using rrsp it makes sense to convert to USD and buy ITOT instead of xuu. Mer is 0.03% and you don't give up 15% in dividend withholding tax from buying xuu. That's the downside with wealthsimple its hard to use USD. Questrade is better and use norbert gambit to convert currency. Rrsp is for long term retirement so you should minimize tax and mer drag

Great listening to your insights, why wouldn’t you consider VFV or XEQT?

When specific stocks are beaten down like this going into December more selling will likely continue until year end . Investors take advantage of the tax benefits for harvesting losses to off set any capital gains for the year . Definitely expect a bounce early next year on V.

I am a retired Canadian and currently only own "safer" stocks/etfs paying dividends...as I live off the funds...but, if I was young and had say 25-30 years to grow the portfolio before I needed to tap into the money (at which time I would probably look for safer income producing stocks again), I would definitely invest in all markets ETFs...The idea is A+ in my opinion...Invest in the US, Canada and developed markets outside of China...simply love this approach....I currently tell any younger investors that this is probably the best strategy they can adopt...The breakdown is up for debate, but the 50/30/20 is tough to argue against....one other thing I mention is if you simply do a strategy like this and invest when the markets are high/low you average out and you don't have to invest any time into researching individual stocks....take that time to work more so you can invest more, or live life and have some fun in that down time...Great video Mark...Rock On!! \m/ \m/

Any thoughts on having a single Canadian ETF portfolio that has similar exposure to your 3 fund portfolio? XEQT for example is weighted 50% US, 25% CAD and then 25% other countries

Great video thanks. Im a newbie. My understanding is when stocks are down, bonds go up, thats why we have balanced asset allocation like vbal etf. How come everything(stocks and bonds)are down now?, does it mean bonds are no longer reliable during stock market crash?

If you factor in the yield from the Canadian etf, then it’s not that bad

3 maybe 4 funds is all most people need. Great vid. Did you switch out XIC for VCN? I have XIC which seems to have more companies.

Warren Buffett- agrees with you, regarding investing in a broad based index - but at the end of the day - what matters - is what happens to your asset base (tax liability) - after rolling over the RRSP into a RRIF ? / After all - this is really about - creating tax efficient income after everything is said and done $$ /
Any insight from you is appreciated - all the best 😊
P.S. - you’re most correct about dollar cost averaging - I’ve done this for years myself - and manage my assets - between a RRIF and cash account
