Mammoth WVH 'Don't Back Down' - Drum Cover - Trey B

Figured I’d try piggybacking a new(er) release. It’s been a minute since I last did that. #MammothWVH Wolfgang Van Halen has released multiple songs I’ve liked. This has been a week where I’ve been limited on time so I caught enough of a window to track / shoot this yesterday and got up early this morning to mix. This is NOT note for note but I tried to create a live(ish) vibe of the track. As a lot of you probably already know, Wolfgang plays all instruments. With that said, he laid down some EXTREMELY good hard rock drumming! (search Wolfgang Van Halen drumming and watch him with Alter Bridge). What was laid down was perfect for the tune. But MAN can he sing! His drum mix is huge. Thick with a capital T. It is to be expected when he is (A) the son and nephew of two rock legends, (B) insanely talented and a dude who clearly knows his way around on the mixing console and (C) has Michael F’n Baskette producing. Baskette has had a hand in so damn many albums I’ve dug since ’05 or so (Sevendust, Falling In Reverse, Chevelle, Alter Bridge). So as much as playing, this was fun in an attempt to try and get that big but punchy mix (at 4:30 this morning LOL!). More than anything, I just liked the song and I stress this - this dude has (or will have) drummers covering his material note for note. For me, he may be younger but he comes from the "jam" lineage and because of that, I felt no issue adding things here or there and being in the moment there or here. I hope you all are doing fantastic! I cannot thank you enough for the incredible support and I'm hoping to get in a vid I can mix for Thursday so I'm back on a familiar schedule. Until then, we are going to try a FRIDAY upload. I do not expect this to get big views but with that said, I do thank anyone who is kind enough to give it a view or two. In closing – tooth that was giving me problems is GONE! Problemo solved! Abscess under a tooth with a root canal which meant it had to go. This also lands under “Shit Happens”. Total bummer but oh well. I continue to eat Sugary Lucky Charms and drink Mountain Dew which means..........UGGGHHHH..........there could be 5 more teeth to have to go. Trey, first off, I hope that you are having a great Easter weekend. I was surprised to see (&hear) that you covered Wolfgang's new tune. Your enthusiasm in every song you jam to is amazing. Doesn't matter what type of music that you're playing, you really get into it. Some people play well, but they seem emotionless and robotic, not you brother. You are as I am when I scuba dive, in a zone where nothing else matters. Your tempo was on the 💰. 👍👍 to you sir. I like the music Wolfgang is making. I preordered his CD, and waiting for it to drop. Like it. Wolfgang is his own Van Halen and not a copy of his Dad. If he wants to play some of his Dad´s legacy is up to him. He is a talented kid doing his thing and I respect that. Don´t like every track he has released, but more than a few. This is one of them.
