I want to tell you about an really original sounding album from 2024 by Mdou Moctar. "Funeral For Justice" has the electric guitar sound of a giant rock record, with a West African backbone filled with lyrics specifically about the struggles of Nigerian people.

They are touring US / Canada soon, get your tix now they are selling fast. I am seeing on all 4 Canadian dates. I've seen them half a dozen times and especially when they play in 500 to 1500 theatres and halls it's incredible! A definite elevator ride to the weirdest dimensions. A+ vibrations!

Seen him live 4x now. Easily THE BEST guitarist going the past 10yrs. Absolutely stunning style!! That said, His drummer is freaking amazing! He carries the band live 🔥🔥🔥

I'm a fan of West African guitar but would never have found this. Title track is great. Will check out this album...thanks, Robert!

Great review. I love this record. Afrique victime is amazing as well. I saw mdou play live in Amsterdam. It was one of the best shows ever. The drumming was out of this world and mdous guitar solos freaking amazing. I definitely recommend going to a show on his current us tour. This guy is so tallented. When he first started playing he had to build his own guitar from a tree trunk and some bicycle brake cables

Cool! I heard this band on my local station 90.1 The Wombat and dig it. Kinda reminds me of Khurangbins guitarist. Also has that African vibe.

Glad you enjoyed it! I have all but one of his albums, and you can pre-order an acoustic version of this release. One of the five shows I’ve seen included an acoustic set, and that was fantastic, I wish he’d play more acoustic sets when he tours. You’ll like Afrique Victim, and Ilana the Creator too.

I've known about Mdou Moctar for a few years now, I don't listen to it often but it's a nice change of pace, a real palate cleanser.

I just saw that he's playing at Stubb's in Austin on the 31st. You got me curious!

Hey Robert. Great video! I've heard some others talk about this album, and listening to your take. I need to get this! Sounds right up my alley. I dropped a new video yesterday myself involving 70s rock. Cheers

Hey Robert, thanks for featuring this. Never heard of him/them but watched a couple videos from this LP and just ordered it. Every once in a while I have to step out of the 60's / 70's too.
