What does it mean to be human? What does identity mean in a world of ever evolving artificial intelligence? In his talk, Bruce Duncan explores these questions and interviews BINA 48, a humanoid robot with a mind of her own. Bruce Duncan has been the Managing Director of the Terasem Movement Foundation Inc. since 2004. He has worked in the field of non-profit administration and education for over 25 years. He is repsonsbile to for overseeing the mangagment and implementation of the research and educational outreach of the Lifenaut Project and other programs of the Foundation. He has taught conflict resolution at the University of Vermont and worked at Seeds of Peace, an international peace camp. He is also a filmmaker and has produced several independent films and documentaries.

BINA48 (Breakthrough Intelligence via Neural Architecture 48) has variously been called a sentient robot, an android, gynoid, a social robot, a cybernetic companion, and "a robot with a face that moves, eyes that see, ears that hear and a digital mind that enables conversation."

BINA48, a robot owned by Martine Rothblatt's Terasem Movement, Incorporated (TMI), is designed to test two hypotheses concerning the ability to download a person's consciousness into a non-biological or nanotech body after combining detailed data about a person with future consciousness software.

I love seeing Bina48 with her designer dress! If only she had an Instagram account to share more cultural aspects of transhumanism.

I found the android entertaining, however the speaker did not present any new Ideas; Essentially all you have shown us is siri with a face. This talk would have been ten times more stimulating and interesting if you had talked about any new technology (beyond skin material) that went into the android, or If you had talked more about the "mindfiles" and how you convert a person's personal information into a digital personality for an android.
