I just got my speed3 yesterday, its surprisingly comfortable for a sports hatch and the clutch is easy to operate too. Also did 125mph cos some toyota was asking for it, he eventually caught up seconds later at the traffic light.

I would get a GTI over a Mazdaspeed anyday.I drove an 06 GTI before and it is fun as hell to drive and very nice interior.

I have the 4 door of the GTI. Same color and everything. My buddy just picked up the same exact Mazda speed 3 today. lol

biggest thing i don't like about the speed3 is the weird front bumper on it. i love the gti

Love the ms3 it's a beast, the gti costs more to purchase and more to fix and maintain . MS3 all the way

speed3 gauges are way nicer with thier blue and orange light :D

IMO the GTI wins on the exterior styling as well. A hood scoop, flared arches and a spoiler aren't criteria for a good looking car

Yeah, both cars are nice. Did anyone noticed the bullet holes in the 'turn right' signal? . Nice special effects :S

"GTI's a better daily driver..." well, I've had the MkV Golf GTI and also driven the 2012 Mazda Speed 3 for a week. For starters, as a home mechanic, I prefer the Mazda for ease of maintenance. No special tools needed to change pads and rotors; for GTI, good luck.

Speed3 does have noticeable turbo lag, but it's way faster, and it feels better in terms of handling. Not crazy about the Navi but otherwise has nice interior. Not fully leather seating but not crazy about GTI's cloth seating either.

This is the strangest review I've ever seen.

Mazda 3 speed is a better car. More reliable, functional, and all and all a great car. The GTI seats look pretty sweet though.

I would take the GTI as well, the Speed3 is a performance bargain but its styling is too over the top for me and the interior kills it. On the other hand, the Mazda is probably more reliable in the long run. Better yet, I would wait for the Golf R

They should have compared the Cobalt TC with the GTI and compared the Mazdaspeed3 to the Caliber SRT4. The beauty versus the beautiful and the ugly verses the ugly.

Mazda Speed 3 gets up to 32-34 range if you're not constantly pegging the speedo or the tach. Golf is okay but difficult to maintain and has some quirkiness too. Every cars, no matter what brand will have good points and bad points. For me, I used to be diehard VW/BMW fan but now own only Mazdas. Will look to trade in my Mazda5 for a Speed3 for performance. Mazdas are also easier to maintain but VW, you need weird and quirky tools like Triple Square and such. Not fun.

If you're looking for a car that can set off car alarms by just by its looks, then get the mazdaspeed, or any new mazda for that matter. To each his own.

there is 0 turbo lag in the speed 3 lol. The turbo is a soda can. What he is mistaking is the rpm that the turbo spools at. He was probably stomping on the gas at 2500 rpm and wondering why it didn't pick up until 3K rpm. Turbo lag is the time it takes for the turbo to spool.

How do people think the mazda is ugly??? I don't get it. I think it looks sweet. Maybe it has to do something with age. Like the older people think its ugly while the younger people think it looks cool. I think I'm right.

@packers31 i think he forgot to have a look at the front bumper. ;) And did you notice when he was talking about styling he never showed the front bumper :P but other else then the bumper i think that it's not so bad. Still prefer the previous generation...
