Because I am a child of the 70's, I had the opportunity to see many of todays legends. Merle, Charlie Daniels, Hank Jr, George Strait, Willi Nelson, Conway Twitty, John Conlee, Waylon Jennings, and a few more. What a time I had. Great reaction. Thanks Tasha.

Free Bubble up and rainbow stew are the promised things politicians give you that never happens. That’s my interpretation.

Hi Tasha, to answer your question about what made Merle get into all the trouble he got into when he was younger…. His father died when he was 9 years old and he never truly recovered from that. But he does have an awesome life story to say the least! I think his son, Marty summed it up best when he said… My dad is proof of the American dream he went from San Quintin prison to meeting Presidents at the White House! One of the best things about Mr.Haggard was he never forgot where he came from, and always made time to see his old friends when he would come back to Bakersfield.

When Merle passed away, his friend Willie Nelson recorded a beautiful, touching tribute song called 'He Won't Ever Be Gone.' Sometimes I still get teary-eyed sometimes, when I listen to it.

Bubble Up was a soda pop, a direct competitor to 7Up. As for the Rainbow Stew reference, I can't speak to his meaning exactly, but I've always been under the impression that by Rainbow Stew he meant we'll all be eating well and joyfully in this time of all other things getting better. Free Bubble Up and Rainbow Stew. Sounds like a vision of a beautiful and more innocent place, where pollution and politics have been cleaned up and all else is becoming well with the wider world..

This was recorded live at Anaheim Stadium in 1979(I think). At the time, Reagan was beginning his presidential run. He and President Reagan became good friends. Their relationship began when Reagan pardoned Haggard.

He (Merle) sang that song at President Reagan's inauguration. That was the first time I heard in 1981.

I love Merle! One of my first creushes.🤣 I don't think he ever done a song I didn't enjoy! He's in my top 5 with Don Williams, John Conlee, Ronnie Milsap, and Roy Clark!

I've always like this song. This morning for some reason it came to mind and while I was humming the tune, it hit me that the cadence of the song reminded me of "The Big Rock Candy Mountains". Then when I thought about the lyrics, I realized that both songs were kind of saying the same thing. Did Merle have "Big Rock Candy Mountains" on his mind when he wrote "Rainbow Stew"?

Hi Tosha, great video. This song dabued on American Country Countdown with Bob Kingsley at number 37 in 1982. I forget the month though, as I have the brodcast of his shows on vinal records and audio CDs witch I've perchased on Ebay years ago. I'll get back to you on the month if you're currious. Again, thanks for the reaction, I'm subscribbed to your channel, keep them coming, Dave Jenne.

The war was Vietnam, the president was Nixon. The Hag said what he felt, and if you didn't like it, he didn't really care or give a damn
