I was too young to read, but I remember my older brothers, who were in grade school, bringing books home that looked like the background of this thumbnail. I use to just flip thru the pages and make up stories to the pictures!!! I wanted to read so bad when I was 3 and 4! A year later, my father bought me a stack of Dr. Seuss books! I knew how to read by then and I got so bored that I started making up my own stories by the pictures in those books too! When I couldnt watch Rated R moves like Porky's with the rest of the family laughing in the front room...I was sent to the kitchen to read!!!! I got so tired of Dr. Seuss after I learned how to read and making up stories to the pictures that I started to sneak books from my father's Encyclopedia Collection! At first I thought I was Penny from the Inspector Gadget Cartoon then I just became a NERD!!!! Mind you...I grew up in the hood, but my mother, white passing Latina, grew up in the 50's and 60's going to white schools and loved the Beatles! She ALWAYS corrected me and my brother's language cuz of that! My father was Black American who played Bass Guitar, sang better than Philip Bailey from Earth Wind & Fire, that also happened to be his favorite band! Funny how my father is the one who had the Encyclopedia Collection! I just feel grateful, yall!!!!
