Im curious, after testing, radiographs, and pressure testing, what % of welds end up being considered "failed" and have to be repaired or cut out and rewelded? Like what is the first pass success rate for a reasoably competent tube welder?

Hey man, I'm a welder working in the lower mainland with a foundations cert, going back to BCIT for B level in a few months. I'm curious if you joined the boilermakers as a red seal welder, or if you joined them as an apprentice and what your journey looked like. When I spoke to the union after finishing foundations they wanted me to join as a pre apprentice and take their foundations course at BCIT, but it's the same course as welder foundations plus an extra week of more in depth rigging basically, so I decided to start working and make my way to red seal on my own.. do you think that's a good move, or should I just join boilermakers 359 and take the course? Other problem is I'd be taking a decent pay cut as an apprentice, I'm in another union in a shop making $35/hr now but will have to quit the job to go back to B level. Sorry for the life story lol just figured you're a good guy to ask, you're in the position I'd like to be within the next few years!

Cheers man, keep kicking ass

Love the video man but if you film with a GoPro here’s a idea

Put a GoPro mount on your welding hood that way you just look a what you want to film and then you can use 2 hands to weld

But love the vid man keep it up also I’m thinking about getting a tiger hood can you make a review of yours
