I think you would like to hear Desmond Dekker singing the Israelites from the 60s

Classic tune from the summer of 1981 about the disfunction of the UK. UB40's one in ten which was out at the same time also dealt with the social issues of that period. Both really powerful songs xx

This song came out when the UK was going through a bad time.3 million people unemployed when I left school and lots of unhappy young. Bars and clubs closed down so the town's did feel like ghost towns.

What a tune. The Specials were the soundtrack to my youth.

The Specials were one of the more important bands in the U.K.'s Ska movement of the late 70's as well as one of the founders of Rock Against Racism. Their label was called Two-Tone to reflect the racial diversity of their members and the songs were not only catchy as all hell but were politically forward. They're still one of my favorite bands even though the catalogue is fairly small and they broke up a long time ago.

J💝Y you need to play “the selector” Pauline Black’s voice is so distinctive. The selector and the specials are from a city called Coventry 🇬🇧 they have a tiny museum about ska and two tone music, it’s run by volunteers 👏👏👏

Terry Hall (the singer) is a genius. His other band, Fun Boy Three, have a good song called 'The lunatics have taken over the asylum'.

This song reminds me of Father Ted when they had a raffle and they brought a DJ but he only brought that record and when Ted said please arise for the national anthem and then Ghost town plays, funny

I always say that you people from the UK brought and still bring some splendid sounds in all different genres.
Important for the ska scene, the breakbeat and rave scene, the punk scene and much much more.

This is my teenage years. If you play "One In Ten by UB40" I'll stick a trilby hat on your head, take you home and call you an English man
They are copying what they heard around them, music from the Jamaican immigrants. We were lucky, we grew up multicultural. Black and White together, as family, dancing and playing. So they listened to Jamaican music and we listened to white rock glam and the like.
They are talking about the British 1980 recession, when we were all poor and there were no jobs, everywhere began to shut down.. But the music was great. Play one in ten. We black people misunderstood and thought it was a lovers tune. lol
