Very informative video on the differences between 88 & 99. I have been very interested in optics all my life.
I am a huge fan of Kowa, i had the 88 and regretted the day that i didn't anymore.

I was a very keen digiscoper at one point and that scope just delivered amazing quality. I buying the 99 back very soon (being secretary and member of "Le Clipon" seawatch group for more then 20 years, the new 99 in terms of light gathering will most likely substantially influence low light hours counts in a positive way).

Here in Belgium we have strangely enough an almost total lack of presence of Kowa scopes in the field. When i started birding 20 years ago, Kowa was very popular amongst Belgium Birders. My first scope was a Kowa (TSN 1). I believe the 88 (and based on your video here, also the 99) is the best scope i ever seen.

My second side profession is photographer, i will soon start selling Kowa scopes because i believe these scopes deserve more attention to birders in Belgium.

I am already in contact with Synchroptic, Bruxelles, but I would also <love to get in touch with Kowa Europe> in trying to get Kowa back where it belongs : and that is high! on the list of anyone considering a new scope. You can find me on instagram Aquila Pixels, or contact me by e-mail <aquilapixelsATyahoo.com>. Thx in advance ;) !

lovely video, calm and composed run through of all the similarities and differences between two of the greatest scopes on the marked. I am so lucky to have both, and I haven't really used the 883 since I got hands on the 99A. Recently I tried the brand new 88A that optically would be right in between the two. The 883 obviously has the benefit of lower weight, but also (maybe not all will agree on that) slightly lower magnification and in turn slightly wider field of view. But trying out a 99A, side-by-side, made me see and determine so many more migrating seabirds on all most insane distances, that I ended up willing to sacrifice a bit of field of view. Handling and everyday use is a brise, and I just love using this piece of brilliant Japanese engineering

Thanks for the detailed presentation and explanation. What kind of backpack is visible at 0:25?

Did this video not include side-by-side images with each scope in all the conditions that the 99 improved upon?

This is the first time when I hear that 880-series has aluminium tube and only prism unit is made of magnesium alloy. Did the man on the video make a mistake or is Kowa's advertising misleading when it doesn't mention aluminium tube anywhere?

Wasn’t you the guy that had the website digiscope diary?
You used Olivon scopes.

Inform Kowa to make a blockbuster 200 mm spotting scope with superb clarity.

Ever tried an 85mm lens in conjunction with the new TE-80XW eyepiece digiscoping?
I know that it will probably have vignetting. I was just wondering if it was just on the corners where it could be cropped off.

Is there a way to get less than 30x magnifciation on the Kowa TSN-99 for a wider field of view ? Maybo, through an astro adaptor and an astro eyepiece ?

What tripod/head are you using in the video please?

I have a question.
I use a combination of TSN-99S and TE-11WZII.

Does the TE-80XW look much sharper than the TE-WZII?

Im wondering how much better the 99 is vs the 88 and 77 in low light? I have a 77 with the te-11wz eyepiece and am wondering if its worth it to add a bigger objective option to my arsenal. I exclusively use my scope for digiscoping while backcountry big game hunting and shed antler hunting, not sure if the extra pound or so of weight in the 99 and expense of the 2nd objective in general is worth it. 88 is only a few oz heavier but not sure if the added 11mm of glass is worth the money.. Wish i could compare side to side in low light with my 77 somehow to help me decide.. another factor is that i can buy the 88 objective for about $1000 less than the 99

I purchased the TSN-99A scope and noticed Kowa has no carrying bag for that size. I decided to carry it in my backpack
