I think that the problem with the first quench was that the edge was touching the steel of the horizontal quench tank, and that insulated it somewhat. That would explain why that area didn't harden while the other areas did. The edge thickness was the same all the way, and it was evenly heated. If you have any other ideas on what happened, let me know.

I'm still waiting on my integral grinding attachment, so ill have to figure something out. I'm exited to see this finished, and I think i'm getting close

Amazing progress man, I haven't had much time for knifemaking at all since school began. So I totally understand that you haven't had much time either. I'm hoping to get some time in the shop during my fall break.
