Read-Me: Audio sounds terrible, my foggy covid brain forgot to check the audio and phantom power was off and I can't reshoot since I have to stay away from the team so I hope you can forgive me on this one. Also, It looks like the Dolby Vision footage gets mapped to HLG when you airdrop it over from your phone to your Mac. I'm guessing once FCX is updated to support it (which should be soon) then we should be able to do everything in dolby vision. The Dolby Vision footage looks great on the iPhone other than the few things I mentioned in the video and definitely takes advantage of the nice OLED displays. Hopefully the footage doesn't look too bad here on Youtube, and yes the sky really was insane. This was during sunrise and I've never seen such a colorful sky in the morning.

Max, the more content I see about Dolby Vision the more I want to upgrade to an iPhone 23 Pro. Did you all work with this footage on an iPad yet? If so what was your experience?

I normally watch content on my iPad because of the bigger screen, but I give a try to my XS Max and OMG, despite the smaller screen, the definition and colors were amazing, I’ll watch content more often there

Please could you provide us with some sample video files straight out of the camera. I really want to run some tests on the footage, better understand the HLG thing that Apple has done. Also Davinci Resolve has supported Dolby Vision workflow even without a licence since 2018, It doesn't allow you to do trimming (without license) that's it.

Hey Max! Great review as usual.
Do you have any news about Filmic Pro to release the compatibility with 10 bit colors? It would be awesome to make a camera comparison between filmic and the stock camera app.

Thank you, very helpful! I have one question tho: I tried to shoot the same video two times with my iPhone 12, once with Dolby Vision on and once with Dolby Vision off. I have to say that in the video with Dolby vision on the high lights are much more blown than the high lights in the video with Dolby Vision off. Why is that? I thought iPhone 12 was able to support Dolby Vision playback.

Coming up to 3 years on my iPhone X. I think this is the first time I’ve seen HDR content and it looks amazing!

Now that Vimeo supports DV, it couldn't be more simple and the video looks incredible in SDR and in HDR. I just shoot video then upload directly to the Vimeo app on my iPhone 12 Pro Max. And ProRes is on the way!

Yeaahh recently, Youtuber Vincent Teoh from HDTVTest did a comparison to Hollywood's Sony BVM-X300 ($35, 000) professional reference mastering monitor. The color accuracy/performance of the iphone 12pro was almost identical to the former according to his tests. That is quite impressive. It will only get better, unlike the fact that Samsung promoted their note 10+, s20 and note 20 with a similar format to Dolby Vision's (HDR10+). I've been waiting for over a year, after contacting Samsung tech support, to be able to edit and merge multiple HDR10+ videos and I still can't do it. This is because Samsung said back then that HDR10+" is currently under LABS", and that they where working on it. That's BS no solutions in over 1 year? I'm glad apple is using Dolby Vison and I hope Samsung learns from them. For me, time to switch after using Android since it first came out. For me, Samsung doesn't give a crap about tech savvy peole like me, and another reason for my switch.
