CRLS Lightbridge & Compact Beamlight - FIRST IMPRESSIONS

I purchased the CRLS Lightbridge (Cine Reflect Lighting System) starter kit and received the BB&S Compact Beamlight on loan and have been doing some tests periodically throughout the week. These are a few of my thoughts so far on the system!

Thanks for being one of the only people to show the quality of light out of these.

I've been researching these CRLS as much as possible and it's been really hard to find decent narrative or portait-style sample footage, so thanks for doing this. From my understanding one of the main selling points of the CRLS is the light falloff, basically increasing the apparent distance of the source to minimize the effect of the inverse square law. So it looks more like real sunlight. Have you noticed the light feeling more natural in your footage?

Thanks Andrew! You are always very informative yet easy enough for me to understand 🤣

Thanks for this video, it was very enlightening. I hope you get around to making more. I think this is a great concept but there is not enoughl video showing what it can really do.

I get the diffusion levels, but the shadows are still pretty hard. I’ve done a little bit of testing with a kit that a buddy is letting me hang onto and I’m still kind of struggling to see how practical they are. The small footprint aside, it’s nothing really fantastic, especially for the price. Can you make a video demonstrating lighting an actual scene?

Thanks for your video! What kind of rigging for your diffusion fabric (in the book light setup) are you using? Is this a wag flag or something different? I am really searching for setup like this to carry around. Thx for your help.

Nice video! What's the beam angle of the CBL you're using here? I've been thinking if getting one, but there's so little information about them online, so don't know if the 7° or 11° would be best for CRLS.

do you find that you wish you had the bigger sizes in your workflow?

Weird question, but did you used to yo-yo?

Look at the sharpness of the nose shadow, not how the progressive levels of "diffusion" blow up the room. These overpriced aluminum reflectors do not defy physics. Wrap is created by size. Diffusion can contribute to this, but that's it. Approach a point source and you get harder shadows. These reflectors are small. No hype will change that. In addition you should also, even according to the manufacturer, buy their own parallel light generator. Effectively a parabolic lamp. Which is again, super costly. So how is this helpful? As a special tool. To hear this company's spiel, it is the saviour of the indie set. It is not. It is an expensive niche tool. why can't they leave it at that?
