Yes! Count out loud! I try to teach my students this, the younger ones find it silly but it always works

Counting has always been my Achilles' Heel. I intuit the beat/rhythm and I get sloppy. Good advice

I do find it hard to count out loud: saying it while playing an e or an a - the two things never seem to happen at the same time. Guess it’s just practice 😊

Agreed. However, the only thing the “slow it down” thing doesn’t work with is double
Bass. There is no progression in trying to practice it slowly.

I'm trying to learn an off beat kick drum placement. I'm playing the "money beat" 8th on the hi hat, snare 2+4 and kick 1+3. I'm trying to a kick in on the A of 2. I can do that but then the kick on 3 happens way to fast and I get ahead of hands. Any ideas on a way to practice that or will it just come with time? I've been working on it for about 5 hours now

The slower the harder ... I can play (beginner) stuff in real time, when I start playing it slower I ... up and of course counting is everything
