We (in Russia) have a saying «Друг познается в беде», what means “you find out who your friends are, when in trouble”. We have found out who is who and we will not betray our friend China!
Also I think it would be a great idea to do something to demonstrate to China that it should not worry on our account - maybe build some twin monuments devoted to our friendship (one for them and one for us) or commission for one of major Russian cities a super grand traditional style Chinese part/cultural centre with an exhibition space, language classes, a theatre perhaps, restaurants and shops. This would clearly show that we are planning on long and fruitful cooperation. And I would love to have such a place in my home city 😉

The Chinese benefitted from this Russia ukraine war in that this war captured amerikan attention for those three years --- giving China 3 extra years to fortify and strengthen itself for the inevitable conflict (be it economic or militaristic) with amerika to come. And believe me, that's JUST what China did ... China today is a vastly different creature than it was just 3 years ago.

That would also apply to China, it cannot abandon Russia because it will be difficult to stop the west. Russia and its allies (Iran, etc) have huge energy reserves. As such both nations will have to abide with each other!
