Kamala Harris joins TikTok and it's 'just as cringe as you'd imagine'

US Vice President Kamala Harris has received backlash online after joining TikTok to appeal to young voters.

“I’ve heard I’ve been on the ‘for you’ page, so I thought I would get on here myself,” Harris said in her first TikTok post on Thursday.

Harris has become a meme favourite on the app, particularly among Gen Z, as she becomes the likely Democratic presidential nominee.

Her campaign has embraced this popularity, adopting the branding of Charli XCX’s album “Brat” on their social platform X.

CNN commentator Van Jones noted on Monday that TikTok has helped Harris go from “cringe to cool".

Critics on social media suggested otherwise.

"Kamala Harris is now on TikTok and it’s just as cringe as you’d imagine," a user on X wrote.
