In Sri Lanka we learn about this mind blowing rock palace.
This is confirmed as built by king Kashyapa (448-495 AD) who's intention was to stay secured from his half brother the right owner of the throne.
Sigiriya palace was build around 473 - 495 AD.
It has a height of 349m (1144 feet)
Is mostly known for its complex architectural designe with hydraulic system which are used to pump water all the way down to the top of the rock. Amazingly some of the water fountains still work on to this day.
The mirror wall (Mirror wall is a wall which has so many poems written on it by the visitors of the fortress) and the paintings of the kings wives (or some say there are goddesses) are the next most famous things in here.
Unfortunately the King Kashyapa was killed by his half brother at the end even after building such a sucured and well designed palace. After that no king used this as their palace.
And now this is selected as a unesco heritage.
Sorry for my English 😢

I climbed Sigiriya while visiting Sri Lanka. There are some ancient frescos painted on the rock face on the trail up. The gardens at the foot of the rock are also impressive with gravity-driven fountains. There are other beautiful and interesting historical sites in Sri Lanka including several Dagobas (giant stupas) around 2, 000 years old, that were once the tallest human made structures in the world after the great pyramids in Egypt. The tallest Dagoba is over 400 feet tall! There is also a Bohdi tree in Anuradhapura that was planted 2, 300 years ago that was taken from the Bodhi tree under which the Buddha attained enlightenment. It is the oldest documented tree planted by humans.

These are the ancient wonders that SHOULD have been taught to us instead of the useless things they did teach us in history!!! Absolutely beautiful places!!

This place is awesome! We actually did a YouTube video about it 2 years ago. We went during covid so there was absolutely no one there but us. Gave us a lot of time to explore and get some great film without interruptions. 😍

In my opinion, the most exquisite architecture comes from this area. India, Cambodia, Thailand, Sri Lanka etc

It's extremely unpenetrable. You can see armies coming from around 100 miles away. There are these "gardens surrounded it that have different depths and ponds with crocodiles were once around those, and if invaders got close there was away to empty tanks holding water and flood the gardens so that the soldiers would be tripping over each other in some spots and having to swim in others. The garden areas have walls that could fit one person at a time, but they were built to make it a maze. I learned about this from watching one of Praveen Mohan's earlier videos. I would recommend anyone interested to watch it. Because he can explain it masterfully and show so many features that nobody else talks about. Take care 🙏

I’ve been there. I met an very very interesting old timer who I think goes there because of his vast knowledge about the site and is almost like a unofficial tour guide. He showed me areas that were damaged during an attack on the western side, he showed me evidence of roots somehow creating grooves in the stone work, almost like how electricity burns through wood. And he showed me where he thinks they had a their most important food sources growing and how the rain would water but not drown the crop plots. Very fascinating stuff. His name is Donicio Espertza* or ispertza* with frosty white hair.

Sigiriya is a UNESCO World Heritage site and has been for many years. The palace compound actually includes the gardens and structures at ground level as well. Kashyapa's paranoia stemmed from the fact that he killed his father, the king.
He hid at the top of this rock for about 2 decades until his brother, the rightful heir, found him and took the fortress.

If human history is consistent about anything, it’s that most leaders would happily re-write history and claim something that came before as their achievements.
