I know what you mean, I'm skeptical about claims unsupported by evidence, I'm cynical about the chances of mankind growing up and becoming a type 1 civilization without blowing ourselves up or something. I feel this cynicism BECAUSE of the evidence, the history and psychology of the human species.

Why is the word cynicism considered a bad thing? There's defiantly a healthy realism in it. I was a cynic. Now I'm a practicing stoic but I have great respect for cynics

I've often maintained differences in assignment and attribution of the labels "skeptic" and "cynic". Skeptics withhold making conclusions until evidence is presented, and typically make conclusions about claims either based on evidence, lack of evidence, evidence to the contrary, or the likelihood the claim being true based on what we do know about the universe.

Cynics base conclusions on preconceived beliefs. This is how conspiracy theorists operate, as an example. CT are NOT skeptics.

You completely missed the point of cynicism though. Cynicism is the belief that people only look out for their self interests, you can be very open minded, and even a skeptic and still believe people are motivated by their own interests.
