Superman's true Power (Not Pre-Crisis) HD

Who says that Post-Crisis Superman is a weakling? Common questions about this video are answered below:

Questions & Answers

Q - What is Crisis?

A - Crisis on Infinite Earths. The first Superman Comic after the Silver Age, published in 1986, which gave Superman a more stable power set. (Before that comic, people wrote Superman with whatever powers they wanted)

Q - What are these clips from?

A - The first clip is from "Superman vs the Elite". The second clip is from "Superman/Batman Apocalypse". The third clip is from "Justice League: Doom"

Q - Is this "canon"?

A - It's a direct adaptation of Action Comics #775, so yes. Here's a couple of scans from that comic as proof:

Q - Why are they talking/breathing on the moon? How did Superman make a tornado on the moon?

A - An extra-dimensional creature called "Bunnie" put air on the moon for them.

Q - Isn't that explosion too small for 15 supernovas?

A - He said "15 suns exploding in his face". It obviously isn't the full power of 15 suns focused onto one spot. (That would destroy pretty much everything) It's a much weaker attack focused onto one spot to have the same effect as 15 supernovas hitting Superman: a small amount of energy focused onto one spot, via compression can equal the same effect as a greater amount of energy against a single target. For better clarity, see the diagram at the link below:

Q - Superman doesn't have psychic powers!

A - As explained in the Man of Steel miniseries (1986) Superman, and all other Kryptonians have an invisible, millimeter thick, incredibly strong telekinetic barrier surrounding their whole body, that can be projected to surround distant objects. It prevents/reduces damage from most sources, and is the reason for Superman's 'invulnerability'. (which is more like durability: Superman has been injured before, and is injured in this video) It's also the reason he can lift large objects without them falling apart under their own weight, and the reason he can fly:

As for telepathy and telepathic projection, Superman has created illusions with his mind, can use mind control, and has psychic blocks that protect his mind from telepathic attack, and reads minds:

Honestly I thought this is just one of those videos that re upload clips from movies and it kinda was but you have my complete respect for how thorough your description box is. You answered all of my questions and questions I didn't even know I had and citing not only the comic book related questions with website but even the super nova question with a source from WW2. I never see this much work and love in the darn description box so great job.

That's the core idea of Superman. He's big enough to push anybody around, but he's also big enough not to.

Imagine the disrespect of Superman backhanding you with only a little more strength of a regular human so you won’t break your neck

This scene is especially chilling because Superman isn't just deciding to somewhat cut loose to scare the Elite; *he's using their own philosophy against them.* The entire story, they've been acting with the Philosophy that might makes right and those in power should use it however they see fit. And the Elite realize too late that by that metric, Superman wins, and will win every time. It's a horrifying thought, and the exact reason why Clark holds back as much as he does and why he fundamentally disagrees with the Elite.

When Superman, the very incarnation of hope, starts to sound like _Sephiroth, _ the Man of Steel left that world of cardboard and he is _pissed._

What's truly frightening is how much he held back here, and the fact that he did all this "for show" just to teach Manchester a lesson.

Two things to note that make this scene better:

1. Ordinarily, you can't show people gruesomely dying without raising the age rating considerably. A clever way around this that also makes the deaths seem much darker is hearing Superman describe these deaths in gruesome detail. Really stirs up the imagination.

It's scarier knowing they could be based on facts. They're not just bluffs. They're threats. They're a terrifying reminder that Superman isn't just dangerous, he's creative.

2. Superman's English voice actor also portrays Sephiroth. George Newbern is really, really good at sounding like a villain.

I love how this scene kinda spits in the face of dark and gritty evil Superman stories.

He has the power to do anything he wants for any reason, but instead of tearing the world down he tries to prop it up.

There are three things all Wise men fear; the sea in storm, a night with no moon, and the anger of a gentle man.

Superman knows full well the power he wields. The fact that he chooses to be gentle, kind, and respectful of free will is why he's a hero. That and how he'd probably knowingly take a kryptonite bomb to protect a stranger. He knows how to kill, and has the power to do so on incalculably horrific scales. He chooses not to. Even when he must kill, he does not revel in it or inflict needless suffering.

Man! The voice actor who played Superman really was amazing here. I could really feel the murderous intent in his voice and it gave me chills. Kudos for a superb acting!

For all his raw strength, one of the things you ought to be wary of when it comes to Superman is his heat vision. There's a reason you don't see him use it aggressively often. Because by then it becomes easy mode for him and ultra-nightmare for us all. Remember that time he burned through Darkseid's face? Lobotomized DCAU Doomsday? Took the life of President Luthor? Heck, look how Injustice Billy ended up. What about burning down a Joker party? Best, the part he burned down an entire army of Doomsday clones.

"Heat vision. Focus through your pupils like a scalpel. *INSTANT LOBOTOMY.* "
sounds like a badass ad for a surgical procedure, too.

Jonathan and Martha Kent are the true heroes of the DC universe.

Through kindness, wisdom, and general wholesomeness they made Clark/Kal who he is.

Without them this unbound apex predator would have burned the world down.

When people say Superman is a boring boyscout and yet he can be very terrifying when he wants to be.

I've noticed that there actually seems to be a psychological aspect to how Superman takes down each member of the Elite, in that it shatters what they think makes them untouchable and powerful.
Managerie is taken out with a dart, and she outright says it feels like something bit her. Setting small hordes of monstrous creatures on others to bite them to death is her department, and Superman inflicted something similar on her with just one much tinier dart
The Hat suffocates due to real world biology and physics, things that he should have been able to bypass as a magic user. This takedown reminded him he was still bound by natural laws, so his carefree arrogance was unearned
Coldcast is pretty much the brute of the Elite, using powerful energy blasts as an all-solving hammer. Superman defeats him by using the opposite of strength, speed, to yank him away before he can even formulate a plan to attack. With the added benefit that hiding in a city would be ineffective, because Superman can make him look like a firecracker in comparison if he wanted
Manchester Black sees himself as the leader, the brains of the Elite, thinking he knows what's best. Superman's literal attack on that same mind of his doesn't just take away his real and only strength, his powers, but also demonstrates to Black how intelligent Superman is to do something so precise and effective. Hell, his entire gamble proved that he could plan two steps ahead of Black and invalidate his claims that might makes right is, well, right
Edit: And this makes comment number 52, 000

What makes Superman such an endearing character is how he’s almost ALWAYS portrayed as the most powerful being of the Justice League (if not, the entire DC Universe) yet is debatably the most down-to-earth and human member of the team

What’s scary is, for all this, Superman was *still* holding back
