Ubiquiti USW PRO 24 POE Gen 2 Switch Review

This video is a review of the Ubiquiti USW PRO 24 POE Switch. I purchased this switch to replace my existing core network switch. I need onet having higher throughput capability, two 10-gig up/down SFP+ ports, POE on all ports (including high power capability), along with other advanced future-proofing features. Welcome David to the world of Ubiquiti! You’ll find their switching line and AP line to be extremely solid. I also believe you can bypass the cloud sign-on requirement and configure the controller software with a local account (based on version). Great review!

Very nice switch, would like to use in a PTZ camera configuration using the fiber for a backhaul to a secondary switch. With POE to a Trango radio setup for remote parts of the PTZ configuration. Thank you for another great video, very informative.

Great video! My compliments for your relaxed approach and organized way of sharing.
I just bought the unifi cloud gateway ultra and will be replacing my Cisco SG200-26 with this switch because I will add 4 accesspoints that needs to be fed by a central psu instead of finding 4 wall outlets for them.
My IPcamera's also have poe possibilities so this switch will be used well.

A question for you:
What is in the basics needed to make a mesh network with 4 pcs AP AC Pro accesspoints?
Can I also run this specific task on a raspberry Pi 3b (have some laying around here) and will this be done ONLT on local side, without having to login at all?


I intended to use the cloud gateway ultra for this task but since ubiquity uses JAVA as a console for all your network stuff, I am not so convinced about the security of cloud based remote control of all your network equipment.

This 10GiB ports, are these fiber ports (SFP)?
I don't use fiber yet and will be happy to just use Gigabit ethernet instead.
Do I need to use one of the 24 ports as an upload port connected to the cloud gateway ultra or can I use some hardware to make use of the sfp or 10GiB ports instead?

Have you had a look at the FS lineup of switches? They might be a little cheaper but may not be what you want.
I'm interested in how you intend to connect your RaspberryPI via POE and how you plan to use it. I see there is a HAT that will allow you to do this, but it can also be done using a POE splitter (RJ45 POE female input to RJ45 and USB type C output). It is a little cheaper and would free up the HAT for other uses.
