The growth of machine learning technologies offers exciting possibilities (and potential concerns) for the Wikimedia movement. This panel will explore recent AI developments, how these developments impact the way volunteers manage and moderate contributions, and potential partnerships the Foundation may make with AI industry and advocacy organizations. The session does not require research, engineering, or legal expertise, only interest in the Wikimedia ecosystem.

The recent acceleration of consumer AI technologies has created many opportunities, questions, and challenges for the free knowledge ecosystem. These technologies may affect the knowledge production and governance model of the Wikimedia projects. Through this panel, we raise awareness about how Wikimedia Foundation and Wikidata teams perceive the impact of the recent advancements of AI on the Wikimedia projects and share how we intend to proceed adapting and embracing this space. Topics may include:

1. What can be the impact of recent AI developments and what's expected to come on the Wikimedia projects?

2. How do we expect the knowledge-seeking behavior of users around the world to change and what is the Foundation doing to anticipate those changes?

3. How copyright and data laws currently affect content contribution and moderation in Wikimedia projects.

4. What is our role in advocating for the open-licensing ecosystem?

5. How can we approach partnerships with organizations, industry associations, and non-profit advocacy groups?
