I would recommend Vladimir Zorich's "Mathematical Analysis I" and "Mathematical Analysis II". Although Rudin's book is indeed quite tidy, I would suggest that he fails, comparatively, to appreciate the soul of analysis. Zorich actually appreciates the historical trend of increasing generalizations in analysis as accompanied with intuitive discussions and motivating examples, while revealing tremendous amounts of applications and potential. For budding students of analysis, you will see for yourself if only you investigated the 1000+ pages of material.

Whereas Rudin merely flies in the atmosphere and attempts to tidy analytic phenomena with little detail by watering them down, Zorich remains on the ground fighting through entangled weeds and muddy ponds.

Gosh legitimate copies are hard to find in decent shape for a reasonable price. Truely a priceless item for it's exposition.

As an undergrad I thought this book was extremely difficult. As a math prof I now rate this as my favorite math book in any subject. This is the perfect introductory analysis book in my opinion. Only you will need a good grasp of proofs before you are ready for it.

Nice enough book I'm sure, but if I recall there were too many cases of using methods that would look totally arbitrary to anyone who didn't already know the proof, starting with literally the first proof in the book on the irrationality of sqrt(2). Got frustrated long before getting far enough for there to have been a point in reading it. Before anybody says I just needed more mathematical maturity before reading it, I admit that I should have already been familiar with analysis ahead of time and that the responsibility for any difficulty I had as a result of not already knowing it was entirely my own. Proof is left to the reader as an exercise.

Nice. Does Rudin cover only analysis on R or also in R^n? I just discovered your channel and I’m really liking your reviews.
