I’ve seen numerous photos and videos of the Hall of Mirrors, all of which were packed with people. I was determined to find it empty 🤣.

Here’s what we did:
* visited off season on a weekday (March/Wednesday)
* Visited on our own (without a booked tour group) — Versailles is easy to get to via train and bus
* Bought the first timed ticket entry slot
* Arrived to the palace 40 mins earlier than our timed entry and were 2nd in line to enter
* After we cleared security, we power walked our way straight to the Hall of Mirrors (after asking for directions) — you can always go back to the rooms you skipped

We had the entire Hall of Mirrors to ourselves for a good 15-20 minutes and it was EPIC. Truly one of our most memorable experiences. Of note, tripods are not allowed 😆.

✨ If you’re a guest of the newly opened Le Grand Contrôle Hotel, you’ll have an opportunity to enter the palace with a guided tour after hours. There’s also the option of booking a “Prestige Tour” directly on the website, which is a guided tour of the palace outside of public hours.

✨WAKE. UP. EARLY✨

The chances of finding popular places empty or with very few people is higher the earlier you get there.

We bought a 9 am reserved ticket for the Palace of Versailles on a Wednesday morning. It’s about an hour away from Paris via train. Tour buses don’t get there until past 10 am. By 845 there was already a que of guests waiting for it to open. We were second in line.

After we got through security checkpoint we exited the building, went directly across the yard to the main building. Most people stopped to use the restroom or to pick up their audio guides.

We rushed through all the other areas because you can always go back after you see the Hall of Mirrors.

My hope is that you also get to enjoy the Hall of Mirrors while it’s empty! Happy visiting!
