Tories Have Lost Economic Poll Lead

Two prominent pollsters have indicated that the Conservatives are no longer seen as being better with the economy than Labour amongst the general public. If this is translated across to key voters, there will be no way back for the Tories. Voters generally accept that Labour are better at delivering on public services, so if they are also seen as being better with the economy, then we should be looking at the last parliament of this tory government, and just hoping they don't do too much damage with the time left to them.

68 years old we are in the worst financial disaster I can remember and the government has gone missing.

Tories throw 'Socialism' out as an insult. Not enough people understand what it truly means

There's always been this myth that the Tory Party were the party of responsible fiscal management. I'm old enough to remember the 1970s, 80s and 90s and it really is absolute nonsense.

12 years of economic incompetence. Who on earth still thinks the tories are better than Labour

As a teenager in the 1970s I grew up with my Dad´s perception that the Conservatives were the party of equal opportunities. He was a successful insurance manager with a lower middle class background and we thought he was a die-hard Conservative - until Thatcher came along and "made the richer richer and the poorer poorer" so that he never voted for the Tories ever again.

Amazing how far we had to fall before the penny dropped with the public about the Tories and the economy. Even more that some still think this is a Tory strength!

As bad as things are, the silver lining is being able to listen to intelligent analysis of how bad things are and what the possibilities are for doing something about it. So, as always, I appreciate what you do, Phil.

Truss is a continuity candidate and styles herself as such. If she continues on the same path as Johnson which now seems inevitable, then Britain is destined to be “The sick (and possibly dying) man of Europe”, once again.

Aneurin Bevan called Tories, "Lower than vermin..." Not much has changed since his times I think.

What have they done in 12 years absolutely nothing, ..

If you count that fact that the Tories were the dominant party in the coalition government, they've been in power for 12 years.

Once upon a time, people used to rent a house from the council. The rent they paid helped fund that council, and those on benefits received Housing Benefit, from the council, that they paid BACK to the council. Today, people rent privately or from housing associations. The money does not go to help fund the councils. And if they're claiming benefit, the money flows from the govt, to the private sector. The same with Nationalized Public Services, the money spent just went round in a circle, instead of into shareholders pockets. So, lets privatise, said the Tories! The end result of this is we have privately owned energy companies making a fortune; rail companies who's tracks melt in the heat; privately owned water companies who can't supply water; private contractors who supply food to our hospitals and make more money shipping said food half-way across the country, (until it fails to arrive because the cheaply maintained lorry breaks down); private cleaning contractors for those hospitals who understaff by a country mile, resulting in...dirty hospitals.; And all the time, the money to pay for all this just keeps soaking away, like water into a desert. That's my take on it anyway. Re-Nationalise the lot!

I always thought that having a cap meant a line in the sand. The regulator says that that's as far as you can go, it should not be something that moves based on what the supplier wants. So now cap doesn't mean cap, just more of Tories changing the meaning of language.

I’m always skeptical about polling for two reasons 1. I felt the disappointment of the 1992 election 2. People voted to shoot themselves in the foot (brexit)

A theory: Truss becomes PM and calls a GE in October, because she's really a LibDem at heart and wants the Cons to lose. She then becomes a former PM and gets all the perks and acknowledgement (perhaps a job in the UN) internationally and ends up with a very handy lifestyle without the hassle of having to work hard whilst under public scrutiny.

I've lost the stomache for these people who say it wasn't the Brexit they had in Mind. What the fuck do they think Brexit was going to do?
