Iphone 7 Plus 4k video footage captured using the Filmic Pro app.

I used the MoviM5 for stabilizing for comparison reasons but you can get nice phone stabilizers like the DJI Osmo Mobile for only a couple hundred dollars.

Both cameras lightly color corrected in Adobe Premiere Pro using Lumetri Color.

It just proves that the skills of the makers are more important than what was used,

I couldn't believe my eyes at first... the iPhone 7 footage looks too good to be true! Haha

the thing is that clients will never hire a man with an iphone on a gimbal stabilizer.

99 % of people are missing the point. Of course the phone wont get the same quality in dark areas and the same deph of field etc. The video was to show that u dont need a 50k + camera to make really nice looking films, especially for social media sites like youtube where it gets compressed anyways.

Wow, the fact that he executed this side by side comparison so well, it would deceived almost 90% of the audience in cinemas or any viewing platform. Quick fast cuts, and everyone would think it's shot on a million dollar camera! Well done!

I would say the difference between phone and 'proper' camera footage is motion, phones always look jerkier than a normal camera even at a high shutter speed.

I've watched this video a few times over the past couple years. In that time, I've shot in every setting and lighting condition with my iPhone 7 plus with filmic pro next to my Panasonic gh4. The gh4 was such a pleasant surprise--I've always liked the 4k video images it produces. The iPhone and filmic pro, however, was not. The differences are so dramatic between the iPhone and the gh4 that I couldn't imagine what they would be like with a Red camera. Filmic pro, in my view, doesn't provide much increase in video quality over the iPhone camera app and it's full of noise. I really like the energy of this fellow; I like the way he delivers his message. I appreciate the effort he took to put this together. But I'm calling time out. You don't need a 50 k camera to shoot something decent. You do need something better than an iPhone, and there are a lot of great cameras out there that cost about the same.

Most people won't be flying their iPhone on a nearly $3, 000 stabilizer rig, either. Professional, high-quality, motorized physical stabilization goes a LONG WAY to making a professional product.

ALSO... the Red Weapon will never lose a take because someone called you. :P

Indoor shooting will really show you how much difference, low lighting situation distinguish the good cameras and the bad ones

Let me guess, the video from the bottom frame was shot on RED.

The camera in the iPhone 7 is an amazing tool. I love that I have such a powerful camera in my pocket all the time. I usually use a GH4 and rig for my projects, but the iPhone on an Osmo Mobile is a great "quick" option that is easy to haul places that I don't want to lug a larger setup.

The footage is quite good on the iphone, specially on the sun shot. It has good enough DR and the colors look good too.

great video. everybody needs to realize this only works with exceptional lighting conditions. you pull out an iphone in indoor location and an infant can tell the difference between the footage and a red.

Why on earth are people complaning about the damn stabilizer? The videos where shot equally and in "exactly" the same way. It's a completely fair comparison. This was supposed to show the difference in the video quality comparing a phone to a $50, 000 RED.

Wow - this is super impressive. I'm a filmmaker and I honestly struggled to tell the difference at first. The thing that gives it away is the way the iPhone handles motion blur. It looks 'off' compared to the red (and a dslr that handles video well.) But in terms of resolution, for such a tiny lens, the iPhone is incredible.

Well, to, be fair, you are mounting the iPhone to a gimbal worth quite a shit load of money...

To see the difference is easy, the dynamic range, especially the bright areas. See the sun in that last comparison shot. But, yeah, your point is still valid.

I never liked these comparisons where any camera can do good at. Obviously filming at a beautiful location without having to focus on anything and using mostly wide angle shots is going to look good. A camcorder against a RED might look better for a mostly static shot. But itts when you get to the 50% of the other type of shots you will be doing where the RED or even any large sensor sized interchangeable lens camera will dominate any camcorder or phone.

This was AWESOME!!!! And NOT because of the camera comparison. I grew up hiking those mountains, back before the trails were as nice as they are now. I spent so many summers climbing that very ridge and the canyon that is shown behind it. Beautiful area, that west side of Lone Peak. :) Thanks for showcasing it so well.
