TY for sharing, the incredible length of man's greed never ceases to amaze me. It's a similar story to the buffalo here in the US...One!!

This was very special cover. Thank you for sharing your cover with the rest of the world, educating the new generation about the importance of protecting these magnificent mammals. If it wasn't for you, I would never knew about this story. Job well done. Boy you have lots friendly fly's in Australia.

Thanks for this sad history lesson but it is essential we learn from past mistakes. Too often we don't and continue to justify poor or bad practices for selfish and economic reasons. When you consider the potential life span of Humpback whales, it is quite possible that some of those passing this bay today, may have been around when this station was in operation and suffered losses from their unique family cohorts. Thankfully they are recovering.

We did the same story here on Vancouver Island, and the West Coast of B.C. The whales have returned in large numbers, I believe 1968 was the last year for whaling here. It has allowed the creation of many tourism jobs and kayaking has mushroomed, allowing close approachs. Boat approachs are restricted no closer than 400 meters, even drones have restrictions. Love your country, the water is just amazing.

Can you imagine how bad those flies would have been during those horrible times? Thanks for sharing!

What a sad time in the history of Ningaloo. It makes me wonder how they trust us now. I guess it could be possible some of the older whales may have even been calves when whaling was finally banned. 😢

Those flies are unbearable. What do they live on there I wonder. Doesn't appear to be many dead animals.
