How To Configure a User Account to Log On Automatically With Windows

This works with Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows 10, and Windows 11

There are times when you may want your computer to automatically log in to a specific Windows User account after a reboot. I can think of many reasons for this. Most particularly would be any special software that must be running at all times and runs only when a user account is logged in. Dropbox is the first thing that comes to mind. In some of my client's environments, we had some software that would run on servers but only if the console is logged in by an administrator account. In these and other cases - convenience, for example - you may want Windows to always log in as a specific user. Here's how you can set it up.
