The 9Seventy Stretch-Snap from New Era

Picked up a new 9Seventy cap earlier this year, and here's a review of the one I bought and have worn for the past couple of months.

A great silhouette for my big head. Most snapback I need an extender but this stretch snap works better for my head.

I’m one of those who requested you reviewing the 9Seventy! Great to see. Maybe the mushrooming would be a little less conspicuous with panels in the same color and material. The white side panels now serve as a contrasting background.

The 9Seventy MLB caps and perform caps without the mesh are perfect. They really need to add a mid crown to the 59Fifty line.

I have a few 9Seventy's that are all fabric and no mesh. They are much better. Definitely worth a shot!

Dang, I got a big head too so I’ll probably have the same issue. Cant be wearing a SnapBack on the last snap. That’s a bit desperate lol

I see what you mean with that mushroom effect. Kind of why I stick with the 9 Forty A-Frame. It’s more boxy and structured. I feel that style fits my head better also.

Never knew it was a syndrome that was noticed, just thought it was something I didn't like. Chef Hat. Glad it has a name I can use. That being said I almost exclusively wear 9Fifty snapbacks because of my headshape. So It's usually pretty loose and doesn't happen.

I just bought a 9Seventy online from New Era Europe: the “Yankees AC Performance Navy 9SEVENTY Stretch Snap Adjustable Cap, ” with four perforated panels (side and back). No mushrooming at all, fortunately. It feels great and looks great. For reference: 59Fifties don’t look good on me; too wide on top. The Low Profile usually does suit me. I hope they’ll keep making them like this. The only fault I’ve noticed on this one is that where the front two panels meet on top, the joint is slightly tilted forward. And the button on top is slightly off-center. But then again, they usually are.

I had to return my 9seventy because of the issues you mentioned (couldn’t get rid of the mushroom effect, comfort wasn’t great). I wound up replacing it with the Under Armour Stealthform Uncrushable Hat and it’s one of the most comfortable hats I’ve ever worn. You should definitely check it out.

At last! Another video. 👍 for me I don’t see the appeal of the snapback stretch fit. I have checked them out. I can only see them serving individuals with large head sizes.. to get a snug fit the small notches have to be used. I share your view on the appearance of caps, looking like a chef hat as well, Doug. I tried to correct it using the steam method I learned from your earliest videos. it was to no avail. The 970 exemplifies in my opinion that every style cannot be hybridized.

I’ve never been a fan of stretch fit caps in any context. Good review, I’m passing on these and sticking with the traditional 5950s.

Nice review the 9 seventy dont look that bad i just wonder which is more comfortable sweatband wise i feel like electric sweatband well lose its strength after a while while the 59FIFTY sweatbands well last much longer and be more comfortable for your skin since its made out of cotton i also notice on the 9seventys the logo it seems to be more smaller then 59FIFTY hats

Can you speak more directly to the size? Would this be a good snap back option for someone wearing a 7 7/8 or an 8? Most snap backs feel really tight, so a stretch-snap seems like a great option, but I'd like more info before I order one. I went to a Lids and they didn't have a single 9seventy in the store.

Hi my question is should i size one up or go true to size im usally a 7 but sometimes it leaves a mark on my forehead thinking the size might be to small any thoughts!

Excellent review. I'm a 59FIFTY guy, just can't get into mesh or snapbacks. I have some 59FIFTY designs with the wide crown, even with the flat bill. It's unfixable and essentially unwearable.

Why did new era have to mess up the 5950? My wool MLB hats from the early 00s are perfect. I can’t find anything that fits like them.
