Family patriarch George Khan (Om Puri) disowns a son who refuses an arranged marriage, and decides that Tariq (Jimi Mistry) and his brother Abdul (Raji James) will marry, sight unseen, the twin daughters of a Bradford businessman in this 1970s set, BAFTA-winning comedy.

Directed by Damien O'Donnell (Inside I'm Dancing), written by Ayub Khan-Din (West is West), and also starring Linda Bassett, Archie Panjabi, Jordan Routledge, Emil Marwa, Chris Bisson, Ian Aspinall, Lesley Nicol and Ruth Jones.

A Film4 Production, released in the UK on 5th November 1999.

My mother is Indian and we laughed our heads off at this movie as it's quite true to life and even though my father isn't Indian but he reminds me of Mr. Shah in this movie.

Its hilarious but thoughtful too.

Movie makes me so angry. 'Male Head of family' portayed as so violent and cruel. Its not like this in real life. It wrongly stated ARRANGED MARRIAGE is the same as FORCED MARRIAGE. There is a huge difference.

This movie is nothing but a propaganda to ruin the reputation of Pakistanis in England. Notice all actors are Indian. This movie should be banned. This is a racist movie.
