My Italian mother-in-law taught me how to make this when I was a newlywed, slightly different but basically the same. I cook the pastina separately and ladle the soup over it in a bowl. It prevents the pastina from becoming overcooked when you re-heat the soup. My husband loves pastina. When my children were babies one of their first solid food was pastina mixed with Gerber's chicken or a vegetable. I still make this when anyone has a really works!! The medical community acknowledges the benefits of homemade chicken soup.
