Democratic mayoral contender Andrew Yang backtracked on his support for Israel amid the latest battle in its ongoing conflict with Palestinian militants — after critics on the left, including Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, blasted his remarks.

Yang posted an apology on Twitter Wednesday following a discussion with longtime volunteers who were upset by an earlier post that said he stood with “the people of Israel who are coming under bombardment attacks, and condemn the Hamas terrorists.”

His first tweet, published Monday night, continued, “The people of NYC will always stand with our brothers and sisters in Israel who face down terrorism and persevere.”

On Wednesday, he backtracked, saying his volunteers “felt that my tweet was overly simplistic in my treatment of a conflict that has a long and complex history full of tragedies. And they felt it failed to acknowledge the pain and suffering on both sides.

Yang is generally a well intentioned, smart guy, but he is WEAK AF on foreign policy and in this case he was clearly pandering to the Jewish communities of NY. Dropped the ball AY, ya dropped the ball.

He didn't apologize tho... moreso clarified things - read the statement. Half baked media like the NYP is just as bad as woke mob. He's also not the only dem (or NY mayoral candidate) that voiced their support of Israel, but for some reason he's taking all the heat. Yang might not be the best choice for Middle East ambassador but he still has great ideas for NYC and is the best of the bunch running.

This is typical clickbait by the New York Post. If you actually read the tweet, you'd see Andrew didn't apologize for it.

Just clarifying this 🤷‍♂️

Yang is in a tough spot. Being in NYC, he needs the Jewish vote. As we know most candidates for any office aren't concerned with right vs. wrong as much as they are about pandering to their voting base. Yang just hadn't counted on more leftists standing up. I'm no leftist but in this case I agree with them.

He spoke his mind w a balanced response. What’s wrong? No one can speak honestly or give their opinion. Sad state

He was better off not making comments about the conflict in the first place.

Yang can go stand with Israel... I'd rather have someone stand for America and for justice.
