Timing The Sale of Your RSUs

You've likely been told that you can't time the market. Well, in today's world, that's a bit ridiculous. (A point that I elaborate on in my upcoming book.)

If you are highly compensated employee or highly valued employee, and you work for a publicly traded company, you might be granted Restricted Stock Units over time.

And, if you remain at that company and you remain a highly valued employee, you might find yourself with a very concentrated portfolio of company stock.

So, how should you time the sale of some of your RSUs?

Selling company stock is both a financial planning decision as well as an asset management decision. And, given easy access to information - via live stock charts - there is no reason to just blindly sell your RSUs just because you have a financial planning reason to do it. There SHOULD be some timing involved.
