The folks who are disappointed that there's so little information being released should consider this possibility: what if the only secret all along has been that the military knows there are genuine unknowns flying in our airspace, but that's *all* they've ever known?

Frankly, I think that's the situation. There was never anything constructive that they could have said. A completely honest disclosure would come down to, "We don't know what they are, and we don't know where they're from, and we don't know how they work, and we don't know that they're crewed, and we don't even know whether they're built by intelligent beings or a natural phenomenon. All we know is that, if they ARE the products of an advanced civilization and its 'people' are hostile, they can smear us."

Our military couldn't say that. Even if they're as honest as they feel they can be, they won't put it that bluntly.
