I grew up watching Scooby Doo as a kid as well as the episodes with Scrappy so I was shocked to see Scrappy was the villain in this movie. After learning how disliked he was (he was created to save the show) I can see why they went this route. I liked Scrappy though and I wish they hadn’t done this.

Fun fact: Tim Curry who originally was gonna play the owner of the theme park (which Rowan Atkinson ended up getting) but turned down the role after finding out that scrappy doo was gonna be in it.

I was born in 2000 so I was really young when this movie came out but this scene really makes me think about how people probably reacted when they saw this scene in theaters. I mean Scrappy Doo is the villain and he transforms that sounds weird to say.

It’s devastating what the writers did to Scrappy. He was the character that rescued Scooby Doo from declining. Despite previously stating that he felt that "kids didn’t care", Gunn later admitted with some dismay that younger viewers had reacted poorly to the development, admitting he had not understood how popular Scrappy was with five and six-year-olds. "I still think it was funny that Scrappy was the villain", he explained in an interview with Cinefantastique, "but there are kids out there who were really upset."

Not only Scrappy's character was neutered at the very nature of the villain role every other time he would be mentioned, it would be a mean-spirited exploitation!
