KIUAS - Through Purgatory (Official Lyric Video)

Returning to the stage in their original lineup in 2022, the metal band Kiuas finally makes a return to the realm of releases with their new EP "Samooja: Pyhiinvaellus"

The EP represents the band's first new music release in 14 years, creatively revisiting the atmosphere of the band's initial albums. The recording and mixing of "Samooja" were handled by Nino Laurenne of Sonic Pump Studios, with mastering completed by Svante Forsbäck of Chartmakers.

Formed in the early 2000s, Kiuas is known for its musical versatility and strong themes, and the new EP is no exception. It combines heavy riffs, catchy melodies, and profound storytelling into a unique whole.

"This EP is a monumental milestone in many ways, as it is the first release of the rejuvenated Kiuas and the band's first concept album, guiding the listener into the epic saga of Samooja," excitedly shares composer-guitarist Mikko Salovaara.

The EP will be released on March 1st 2024 on streaming platforms and later in the spring as limited vinyl and CD editions, with pre-orders starting soon.

(This is going to be a long comment, but I love you guys so please bear with me.)
You guys are the reason I discovered heavy metal. I first heard Warrior Soul as the background track in a Super Smash Bros highlight video, I looked up the source, and I instantly fell in love with The Spirit of Ukko. I really think your style of symphonic power metal was different from a lot of bands at the time, and I am stoked to see any new material.

Your music meant so much to me when I was a teenager. I must have listened to every one of your albums a hundred times, and I was really sad when you split up after releasing Lustdriven. I listened to a lot of Finnish/European bands in the 2010s and I found incredible music unlike anything here in Canada, but very little of it filled the gap you left.

I have one question, and I just want an honest answer if you can give it: is this song about God or Christianity? A lot of your early music had very strong pagan and anti-Christian themes (And The North Star Cried, The Decaying Doctrine). When I was younger I thought these ideas were cool and rebellious, but as I have grown up I have accepted God into my heart. A lot of the anti-Christian themes in your previous work have become a bit sour even though I still love the music.

I am not angry or upset, but some of the lyrics in this song would never have appeared in your earlier music ("not led astray by the so-called gods"). It seems like a big departure for you, and I hope that your music can continue to be a source of inspiration and light in your lives.
